The first thing that came to my mind was that I can use 'benefiting', ‘profiting', for some reason I hadn't thought these words could be used as verbs. Plus 'there's no relevance', 'deceit'. New terms I've learnt! If I have to choose similar idiom or expressions in Korean, I can't really think of first one(They're just being selfish to get the benefit). But 'throw someone under the bus', I would say '~를 희생양 삼다‘ or '~에게 잘못을 뒤집어 씌우다’, ‘책임을 전가하다’ It sounds like these to me. I've learnt a lot from this video, like pronunciation and how to structure sentences.. Thank you for the lesson! I'll watch this one again and again and practice :)

At the expense of someone, 은 어떤 의미에선 “재주는 곰이 부리고 돈은 되놈 (중국인을 속되게 부르는 고어) 번다” 란 속담으로도 해석 되겠네요 물론 모든 경우에 해당하는 게 아니라 누군가의 노동을 착취해서 혹은 굳이 착취는 아니더라도 나의 “수고로움” 없이 모종의 이익을 취하는 행위나 상황을 묘사할때

일 마치고 쉬면서 들으니 휴식이 되네요^^ Something that's stuck with me right now is... ''create the big shift(s) to '' I guess I'll have to watch again in order to see exactly what the full sentence is. Thank you for giving me a little break to unwind just for a few minutes. 😊

There is a quite noticeable difference between the two which is why I wanted to go over with you. I want to keep all the things you said. Sounds very efficient and natural!

I think the expression 'at the expense of someone else or others' can be translated in Korean as '누구를 우려 먹다‘ in the example 1 & 2, but not in the example 3 where we may translate it as '생계를 담보로’ So, I found it varying a little wider range of meaning 'on sacrifice of someone or something'.

Because, as one famous villain once said in a movie, I think, uhm..I don’t know exactly how it’s phrased, but “something that people love more than a hero, it’s to watch the hero’s flaw” or something like that, I don’t know, but I can concernedly understand the psychology that’s behind that. And so I think that’s one of the reasons that a lot of people enjoy content like that.

This sentence was interesting. : Now there are some cases of course where a person's past or history can tell us a lot about the character of that person as a whole, which can ultimately affect our decision to whether or not support that person now.

1. An example sentence in a dictionary. Previous industrial revolutions advanced economic development but have largely come at the expense of the planet. (~ 을 잃어가며/ ~을 훼손시키며 / ~희생하면서 ) 2. An example sentence I came across in a book I’m reading now. Her happiness came at the cost of mine. I feel robbed and exploited. Sometimes I look at her and just hate her. And then I hate myself for feeling that. I tell myself I’m ungrateful. I’m worthless without her.

So the first example could be “A does something at the expense of someone else”, then A gets all the benefits. Right? It is my first time using this idiom, so I'm a little bit confused. Thank you for sharing!

Let me share a few expressions I found interesting and I think important to know in this video. Hope I can contribute a little by doing this.... So let’s get right into it. :) 1. There’s "quite a noticeable difference" between the two. 2. That’s why I wanted to "go over" this with you "very quickly". 3. Why "go through the trouble of" coming up with these kind of examples ourselves ... 4. I "tried coming up with" some examples.. not try to come up with.... 5. pay (with for or without for) : pay rent(bills) and pay for basic necessities like food and health care 6. to avoid being "held responsible for" something /to avoid being punished for something/to avoid being blamed for something / to avoid taking responsibilities 7. I don't know much about politics 8. I've seen a few channels that are really "dedicated to uncovering" the dark pasts 9. "even if" it "has no relevance to" now 10. I think that's "one of the reasons" that a lot of people enjoy "content like that"

To do something at the expense of others. To throw someone under the bus. eg) The manager didn't want to take responsibility for what happened to the client; she excused herself by saying that she had delegated the work to others before. She didn't get any blame from the boarder, but it came at the expense of other employees. She literally threw them under the bus to keep her reputation in her career.

I think there were lots of dictators who were benefitting at the expense of their people. And most of them threw someone else under the bus, when they were accused or blamed. 이렇게 예문 만들어도 되나요?

1. 'A team' has a lot of benefits on their plate. Such as no duty and no pressure of production. I hate them. Because They don't know and don't recognize that their benefits and privileges come at the expense of other teams 2. When i was young. I read the webtoon. it called 'jungle high school'. it have a lot of story. but i remembered just one scene. One man attacked by other student. Attacked man brought his friend from back to front and said "friend shield". Now. I'm a part of Company. 'Friend shield' is not just joke. 'Friend sheild' is only making physical damage. In real world. My office coworkers have used me as reputational friend sheild by throwing me under the bus

here are some common ways i use "at the expense of" My brother always makes jokes at my expense :( (My brother makes jokes about me so to everyone else, it's funny. but to me, it's not because the joke is about me and i am the one suffering >_< loL) I love the convenience of Korea but it's at the expense of the laborers/workers >_< (the workers are the ones suffering and making the sacrifice to make my life convenient) We can enjoy our comfortable lives but at the expense/cost of the planet >_< (again, the planet is the one suffering/sacrificing itself so that i can live well)
