Kocuhu's video transcriptions are the best I've seen. And, I have been playing bass for 40 yrs.. His 4001C64 routinely imitates those sounds (such as on Yer Blues and Glass Onion), that most believe were recorded with Paul's '66 Jazz bass. Kocuhu captures all the nuances of Macca's brilliance expertly.

George also doubled tracked the Fender 6 over McCartney's Rick on Back In The U.S.S.R. Something might've been done with the Hofner but i believe it was the Rick because McCartney favored using his now sanded down one on Abbey Road.

I can make my Hofner sound like a Rickenbacker. It's not that hard actually. Turn the bass and mid all the way up with overdrive on and "mute" the strings with your wrist. It doesn't sound as "aggressive" though. Edit: It's hard to play later Beatle songs if you don't have a Rickenbacker. Yer Blues is one of the songs I can play, on a Hofner. Of course, I have to improvise with my AMP, strings, tuning, palm muting, sliding, and the type of pick I use. Also, my input jack is broken and I'm missing the A string, it snapped. So I'm in a tough spot with actually LEARNING songs.
@georgeemil36185 жыл бұрын
Perhaps KZbin isn't the best place to do audio analysis but I listened to quite a few demonstrations trying to compare the Rickenbacker to the Hofner and I can't hear any difference. Some people claim the Hofner doesn't sustain but I don't hear anybody playing the Rickenbacker that way.

McCartney himself doesn't remember what instrument was used on what track. It's just probable, nothing more. The Rick wasn't used before the "Rubber Soul" sessions and he did use a Jazz Bass on Abbey Road and The White Album but on which song, it's hard to tell.
