I felt a lump in my breast in 2019 and had my doctor check it and was told that’s it’s normal and nothing to worry about and i still have it but it hasn’t really changed shape or size but I feel like it gets a little bigger during my periods. I am 19 now and sometimes I just get scared. I have no family history or anything. It’s all fine right?
@yerbba
@yerbba 4 ай бұрын
Given your age and the description, it may indeed be a benign condition such as fibrocystic breast changes, which are common and can cause lumps that fluctuate in size with your menstrual cycle. However, any persistent lump in the breast should be evaluated by a healthcare provider to rule out any other possibilities.

I just found your site. I am 61 and found a lump in my right breast. I saw my family Dr and she found a smaller one in my left breast. One is 1 oclock position and the other one is 7 oclock.. I have an appointment 9/4/24 for mammogram and ultrasound. My mother had breast cancer 25 years ago but I don’t know what kind or stage. She had a double mastectomy. I imagine back then she didn’t have near the choices we do. I don’t know how things will go next week but I just needed to read up on things. I saw how horrible her body looked post op and to say it looked like they butchered her is putting it mildly. I have watched multiple videos so far and your is the first one I understood and gave me the information that I need now. Most have so many big words and I would quickly click to the next because i didnt need all that right now. i do need information on how to deal with something that is probably nothing more than two benign lumps but that if it end up being cancer I can get more information. not a diagnosis but more information that I can understand. i will check your other videos so that I can understand what’s being said and if they are not just lumps I might know alittle more than I did before and that I won’t have to go through a surgery that just looks like they carved her with a meat cleaver. I have options more than she ever did.

It's completely normal to feel anxious right now, and it's great that you're seeking out information. You're right-there are many more options available today than there were for your mother, and if the lumps turn out to be something more, you'll have access to advanced treatments and less invasive surgeries. In addition, surgeons are more aware of the impact of surgery on people's quality of life. Waiting for your mammogram and ultrasound can be tough. If it is something more than a benign condition, you'll be prepared with the knowledge and options that work best for you. We hope our videos continue to be a helpful resource as you navigate this.

I just turned 60 and found a lump in my left breast near the nipple. The NP felt it immediately. I have a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound on Friday. I feel like this is most likely cancer. 😢 Oh my nipple has also been retracted for about 18 months but only thing noted back then was focal asymmetry which I feel was a huge clue!!!

It's understandable to feel anxious about the lump you found. The diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound will likely be able to help lean towards biopsy vs. not having a biopsy. Sending you positive thoughts.

Many thanks, Dr. Griggs, for this useful video! I had left mastectomy with reconstruction and lymph nodes removed in November 2022, followed by radiation and now on medication treatment (verzenio, estrogen suppressant). There was a 3mm growth in the right breast at the time of diagnosis (MRI in August 2022), some 1 week before surgery the doctors recommended to biopsy this growth, which I refused because at that point it was too much for me. In March this year the MRI indicated that growth wasn't detectable anymore. In June the MRI indicated an enlarged 1,3mm lymph node in the right breast, that 3mm growth and additional tiny growths next to it. A control MRI is recommended in January. I am Check-2 positive. Also in January we will need to decide about possible corrections of the left breast (I have slight capsule fibrosis which might need surgical removal) and what to do with the right breast. Considering the Check-2 mutation and increased risk of breast cancer, left mastectomy and the constantly changing situation in the right breast, at this time I lean towards right mastectomy to eliminate the risk of cancer in the right breast and save my life in the long run. I do understand that you don't give medical advice, but what else do I need to consider to help me make my decision on the right breast? Thank you!
@yerbba
@yerbba Жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to write. Questions to consider asking your medical team include: What are my chances of getting cancer in the unaffected breast based on the treatment I've received and am currently on? Are there other measures I can take other than surgery to reduce that risk? Is reconstruction an option for me? Will I need to have lymph nodes assessed/removed? What is the recovery time after a preventive mastectomy? Wishing you all the best. Keep coming back.

Does having mastectomy instead of lumpectomy, reduce the chances of cancer recurrence??
@yerbba
@yerbba Жыл бұрын
Great question. We know from very large randomized trials that the risk of distant recurrence and death is not better in people who have a mastectomy who would have otherwise been able to have a lumpectomy. Removing more normal breast tissue does not increase survival. The risk of having a recurrence in the breast is higher if there is remaining breast tissue, but these recurrences (in the breast) are generally curable.

Without knowing the exact diagnosis, it is difficult to provide much clarity. If three lumpectomies have not revealed cancer, it is likely that further surgery is not necessary. Again, however, it is difficult to know the underlying cause of the breast abnormalities.

Hey doctor kindly reply me did multiple coarse calcified foci with Fibroadenoma is abnormal?
@yerbba
@yerbba 2 ай бұрын
Calcification in fibroadenomas are common, particularly as the fibroadenoma gets older. On mammograms, the calcifications are described as "coarse popcorn-like" calcifications. In some cases, the entire fibroadenoma may become calcified. These calcifications are usually classified as macrocalcifications, which are larger and generally benign.

Thankyou again for another informative video. I’m a midwife and breast cancer survivor. My patients are always asking me about lumps that come up in their arm pits as their milk comes in. I give them general reassurance that this is usually breast tissue, and will resolve by itself. Let your O&G know about it and follow up if it doesn’t resolve in a couple of weeks. I’m going to suggest my patients watch this video as it explains normal lumps so well.
