This train name need to be changed.. since Yercaud located in Salem district.. Earlier this train destination was Salem later it got extended to Erode.. I suggest the new name as Chennimalai Express for this train

True but from chennai it was last train in 1990 to Erode. Last Compartment for Ladies were extra ordinary at that time. At that time Morning Kovai and evening Yercaud was Famous in chennai... Great Trains.

I love Yercaud exp. I have travelled many times in this train from Erode to Chennai. Though it has many stoppages, it runs at its top speed of 110kmph like other super fast trains. Once it reached MAS too early at 03:30 a.m itself. Very happy to see a home loco (WAP 4 Erode Shed) hauling this train.

Since it’s a big train S1-S13 lot of berths are available because of Rack sharing with Hyderabad Express. Always you can get a berth to Chennai. The other train with rack sharing is Salem - Chennai Egmore MS. Express sharing the racks with Dadar Express S 1 to S 13 always you can get a second class sleeper berth. These are some of the Trade secrets. Similarly if you wanted to Madurai Jn from Chennai, the best alternative is Madurai Express from Chennai Central via Salem, Karur, Dindugul and Madurai jn. I am a frequent traveller in train.

Yercaud Express was most famous train for past years. But now salem-Chennai egmore train & palani trains are now salem people's favorite trains. Reasons are speed, stoppings, timings, ac conditions. Yercaud train ac is just k compare than other night trains in salem.

Brother, Erode is the only place having a loco shed. It was a Good and well Equiped Loco shed especially for Diesel and Electric engines in this Western zone...
