Hello ladies, thank you so much for sharing, and thank you to the interviewer also, great content. I got my math degree recently and about to start teaching. Actuary was always on the back of my mind. And I think I'm going to switch to that world eventually and that's why I'm going back this spring to college for my master degree. Thank you, I learned so much. My only concern is the computer skills. But I will take that as a challenge and I will over come it. Side note: I subscribed to this challenge for this exact reason; switching from teaching to actuary 👍. Hopefully more content about this topic in the future.

So is teaching considered a stepping stone position or not?
@EtchedActuarial Жыл бұрын
I would say, it depends. Anna and Keeley were both math teachers. They both taught mathematics in the past before changing career paths. As you may know, actuarial jobs involve tons of math-related concepts, so YES, in this case, teaching can be a good stepping stone. Also, take note that they didn't just suddenly transition; they took the exams first before securing their actuarial positions. BUT if you are considering whether your profession as a teacher, in general, can potentially help you become an actuary, the answer is still YES. First of all, to become an actuary, you may need to have a bachelor's degree, and the field in which you majored isn't important at all. As a teacher, you already meet this initial requirement. The next step is to take the preliminary exams and seek opportunities that involve concepts related to the actuarial field as your stepping stone. I hope I answered your question. 😊

Thank you! So do you think changing from a teaching math job to something data related would be better? And let's say the math teacher has already passed P and just starting to prepare for FM.@@EtchedActuarial

Both are fine depending on your current situation. Actuarial field is heavily influenced by tons of mathematical concepts. So, being a math teacher can already be considered as a stepping stone position. However, there are things you need to consider if you are thinking of changing paths and transitioning to something that is data-related. If you’re not skilled enough in Excel and don’t know any programming languages, yet, then I would suggest that you look for data-related positions that will help you gain these skills. But if you already are versed enough with these two skills, then I’d say, you no longer need to get a data-related stepping stone position. As you said, exam P is already out of the equation. This means, you are a bachelor’s degree holder, worked on a stepping stone position as a math teacher, and an Excel and programming language-skilled candidate. Having all these under your belt are already ENOUGH for you to qualify for an actuarial position. @@ungarlinski7965

Hi there! I'd recommend you start by learning Excel and looking for a stepping-stone position. I outline the whole process in detail in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGKTqIdqprGUaZY I hope this helps! :D
