I've studied (or watched) at least 5 different bass covers of CTTE posted on KZbin (primarily the album version, though covers of live performances are also online), along with the original isolated bass & drum track from the album (using Steinberg's Wavelab 9.5 Pro, with its high quality speed control and other tools to figure out exactly what Squire played). I have yet to find a bass cover that matched my analysis of the isolated bass track (of course, despite access to the isolated tracks and the use of various tools, I could be wrong at several points), but this is one of the best I've seen - definitely in the top three. Actually, it is one of the three covers that are worth a damn; the rest range from decent to sloppy amateurish junk IMO (and some are only excerpts). FWIW, the spots that seemingly don't match the original are played differently by each of the bassists that have posted a quality cover version; they are obviously challenging spots to figure out. All that aside (and with all respect and kudos for taking on one of the more challenging bass lines in the Yes repertoire), I'm interested in your approach to figuring out the bass line - what sources you used (album mix, isolated album tracks, a live version, etc.)? I'm also wondering what led you to play some sections with fingers instead of a pick? Also wanted to ask if you have plans to cover any other Yes songs (and/or other 'progressive rock' from that time period, e.g. King Crimson, ELP, Genesis, etc.), and what motivated you to create this cover of CTTE? For those interested, here are the other covers I found worthwhile: David Keep: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXTNZYttpcyVpZY (He also does a number of other Yes works, including the daunting Gates of Delirium) Alternate video of David (the video is arguably lower quality on this earlier posting): kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZmsmqZtostkf8k miguelbass: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d57MaYeHp5ump5o (parts i & ii) & kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWG4lXykrqikZ6M (part iv) Here are isolated tracks from the original CTTE album: Isolated Bass & Drum tracks from the CTTE album here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIOvq6NjoMuohLs (This channel - Prog Masters II - has a wealth of isolated tracks from seminal 'prog' albums, as well as rare live concerts and other content). If the previous link doesn't work, try this one (from a playlist): kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIOvq6NjoMuohLs&index=15&t=0s Just drums (hearing Bruford isolated blew my mind, despite 55 years of listening to his playing in Yes, King Crimson, UK and other groups): kzbin.info/www/bejne/op6Xc6p5mrSVbc0 or kzbin.info/www/bejne/op6Xc6p5mrSVbc0&index=13 And the isolated guitar (which might be useful) here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mommYoSmatt8gqc I had the isolated keys, but it was taken down from KZbin; here's a copy on Facebook: facebook.com/watch/?v=1912052759100724

There is an easier way to play that first real riff if you use the a and d string more. You can play it in a lower position without moving all the way to almost the 12th fret. Lol you and I should be bros. You covered hellbent by kenna and then this on bass. Only certain people can be that eclectic and have this taste in music. Either way you fuckin kill it homie.
