I respect the band for still recording music and still playing live, but for me it’s not the same without Chris. Chris was the heart of the band for me. I miss him so much. He’s one of the only musicians that brought me to tears after hearing about his passing. His music just connected deeply with me.

I think Davison is a good singer, but he has a softer tone and lighter delivery than Benoit or Jon A. Benoit could belt it out with power when needed. His voice had a more piercing (in a good way) high end that could cut through all the layered sounds of the band. But then Benoit started to struggle with pitch the longer he stayed on the road and was visibly feeling ill on most of the Yes/Styx double-bill dates. Davison's strength is that his pitch is damn near perfect every night on every song, but then he's not pushing his voice and volume to the heights that Benoit did. JD's softer singing approach helps him keep better control and not burn himself out with power belting. I had some vocal experience in my younger days, though it was in church music not rock & roll, but I do tend to notice the little vocal details because of that. Benoit and Jon D are both good singers with different strengths.

I’m 49; am I going to live long enough to hear Jon Anderson sing “Machine Messiah” and “Fly From Here”? … probably not. Steve and Jon really need to burry the hatchet before it is too late - Alan too… bring everyone else along to support. Give us what we want please - get out there and play these songs one more time with gusto. On a separate and seemingly different note: Benoit David was a great singer for this music. I hope he realizes how many people he made happy by dedicating himself to these songs.

30:10 We Can Fly. Some don't like Benoit David's interpretation of the material, but it was great to hear someone who could sing songs from Drama in a voice that sounds like Jon Anderson. It seems to me that he really did help tie things together for a few years in some remarkable ways. I'm not crazy about the short hair and Nathan Lane sort of shape, though. CS' vocal needs to be louder, though, as his voice was always a key part of the Yes alchemy.

I'm gonna say Benoit was a good replacement for Anderson. I've been a huge fan for 50 years, but at some point, they all need to retire, and Jon wasn't writing the kinds of music the band wanted to play. Plus he had health issues. Benoit over Jon Davison any day. Davison's voice is always pretty and has no bite - Anderson could wail. And Alan White should have retired 20 years ago. Wakeman (and Squire, I believe) held the view YES should continue on with new blood for many years, and I agree.
@big_jimcooley2679

@@ikkenhisatsu7170 Agreed with these comments. Had the pleasure of meeting Alan multiple times, lovely man but his playing had really slipped. Benoit was a better fit for Yes than Jon D who works fine as a Yes tribute singer. They should have stuck with Oliver, he was suberb. Downes really brings the band down... no pun intended. I would have continued seeing Yes with Oliver and Benoit even after Chris passed. This is a band I have seen since the mid 70's, loved them but they really went down hill without Chris. The sloppy playing of Downes was more obvious without Chris. Squire was such towering musician... one of my favorites. Just my two cents.

Anderson developed some health problems (chronic bronchitis, I think?) that left him unable to sing up to par. Perhaps because of plans to tour already being made (which, for these guys, starts with simply clearing big blocks of time of future work), the rest of the band decided to carry on without him so they picked up a Yes tribute band singer whose day job was boat repair. I saw them when they toured with Benoit and enjoyed it a lot; he carried the material admirably and I'm glad they recorded with him once.

God it's obvious how much Steve hates Rabin's music. I think 90125 was their best work, to the contrary.

Benoit has a beautiful voice, but he CAN'T cope with Anderson's difficult passages. Listen intently to Heart of the sunrise (third song into the show). It's painful. Some parts of Yours is no disgrace show the same problem. When he is not in a difficult song, he is splendid, but then reality shows its head. Those high notes in And you and I are really hard and Benoit is unable to be there. He looks like a good person and I like his persona during the show, but his voice is suffering throughout. And I don't think Jon Davidson is a better frontman for Yes, but he surely is more reliable.

Benoit was much better than their current tribute band singer... but why is everything so damn slow?

I hate to say this! But! Steve Howe slowed down the tempo, a lot! He slowed it down, and it's wrong! They sound sluggish and slow. Can't stand it. I like Fly from here and Benoit singing! Much better quality voice than Horn.

he is truly awful...saw them in Greensboro, NC at Carolina Theater, it was amazing save the vocals...it's great to see all the prog bands in theaters, it really does justice to the amazing level of musicianship...

Sorry, but this sounds like a bad cover band. Slow, plodding, sloppy, uninspired.

a bunch of old guys going through the motions. They should have replaced Alan years ago, he's an absolute liability on this.

I love Yes. They've been a lifelong favorite of mine. But I agree. At some point you've gotta stop trying to sound like you did 40 yrs ago. It's ok. We get old. I'd rather hear something new or at least totally different arrangements of the old. Plenty of bands out there that can cover the originals more convincingly. Tempus Fugit by some guys you've likely never heard of with a low budget PA system, no production & almost no one watching: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bofLnmupa7aimqs

They will always be a favorite of mine. But I think once they moved on from Jon they became a bit of a cover band of their younger selves. But still. Very special bunch of musicians for me. I've seen them so many times over the years both as a band and individually. Cried like a baby when Chris Squire died. One of the hardest parts of getting older for me is losing favorite musicians. But we've always got the music to listen to.

yep and their music will keep on well after we've gone :) . Never seen them but I am going at the end of March to Paris. There only will be Steve Howe but looking forward to it as the Yes vibes and energy will be there, without a doubt :)
