You are so right when you say that it’s mostly our own people that ask those annoying questions, “is that all of your hair?”, “what hair extensions do you have?”, “how much did you pay for it?”, “when are you going to take it out?”, “your locs are so small, do they break off?” SMH. The one and mostly only question that I get asked from caucasians is “can I touch it?” LOL. Yes the questions are annoying but I do get compliments all the time. I’m one year and 4 months into my Sisterlocks journey and it’s covering my neck and at my shoulder. I’ve enjoyed every moment of it; my only regret is that I should’ve done it sooner!!! I can’t wait to see my locs get longer and longer.

I feel your pain. I have medium-sized, lower back-length locs & I was approached by a black woman that asked me where did I purchased the hair for my braids...lol. 😀 I was like; 1st of all, ma'am, they're locs & 2nd, it's all mine (Jesus himself did this). She says, "oooh, I didn't know" and walks away (girl bye)...lol. 😆 People never ceases to amaze me. SMDH...😒

My hair is to my shoulders but when I started, I felt like experiment X. People kept coming and asking me about my hair because it is so thick. The guys in my department act liked the children in the car who ask "are we there yet"? But instead, "are you locked yet?" But then they would pick up my loc and examine it like it is the new wonder of the world. When I was loose natural, I was turning in my final to my professor who was taller than me and he proceeds to say, HMMMM THAT IS ALL YOUR HAIR? It was more like he was shocked that it was. So I said will it make my grade better if it is?

I don’t take offense to people asking me if my hair is mine lol, I take it as an opportunity to educate people, have a conversation, and tell people to google sisterlocs.❤️ If someone thinks my hair is fake, then honey- it MUST look AMAZING!❤️ I think your pen is both cute and can come off as pretentious. It’s perfect for people who don’t want to be bothered and who have a sense of humor. I would buy it because it’s cute and factual. Lol ❤️👑

Your hair is beautiful! My sisterlocks are brastrap length now. My goal is waist length then I'll decide if I'll maintain that length or allow it to grow longer. I mostly receive lots of compliments and I'll occasionally get asked if it's all mine. I'm never annoyed either way. Just like I was before I got sisterlocks, people are intrigued and probably haven't come across many women of color with their own naturally long hair. Prior to sisterlocks I could barely maintain any real length so it was well beyond my imagination that I could have the length I currently have.

Michelle Joshua I agree! I never thought my hair would ever be this long

No that's not strange that they would ask because we have been programmed to believe lies and stereotypes. Also there are so many courterfit loc . I've heard and no people who have loc extensions also people who use other people locks and they look natural. When I was a loose natural I used to even get asked that same question. it is very aggravating for people to continuously ask the question is that your real hair but I feel like it's a legitimate question since the weave companies are making so many imitations.

The two most frequent questions I get asked is how many locs do I have? How do I take them out? I've been on this loc journey for 3 years. The questions have not yet bothered me. However I do notice most of the questions come other ethnicities, so I just take it as they just don't know how sisterlocks work vs. traditional dreads.
@Timetrae5 жыл бұрын
I get asked the same question all the time by whites and blacks equally!! Black people root check me more though. It’s crazy that we are never gonna escape that question!! I got it when when hair was like 2 inches and relaxed and now I get it with my bra strap length natural hair. And I’m SURE I will get it whenever I actually Sisterlock my hair!! 🙄🙄🙄UUUUGGGHHH!!! I’m so over it!!!

I can't relate...not sure if it's because locs are really common where I live but this doesn't happen to me. I'm speaking specifically about the comments concerning "if my hair is all my hair". I may get question about what kind of locs I have and I will get the occasional complement but maybe only a handful of times has someone questioned if they were extensions or "real". I find this topic so interesting, simply because it has never been an issue and I'm not sure if someones curiosity would bother me. I would rather you ask then assume. I always enjoy the opportunity to educate others on something they knew little about. And I have never had a stranger touch my hair without permission. Ohhh and my hair is waist length.

@@Brittania718 I reluctantly do, but I only let them do it for a hot second. I may let them touch one or two locks but not run their hands through my hair. I am uncomfortable with strangers in my hair. Your hair flows just like a waterfall. It's just beautiful.

Well, my hair is not at that “unbelievable “ length as of yet so I don’t get those questions, however, in this era of extreme weave lengths, black women with their own long, long hair is quite rare & are sort of like unicorns 🦄😊

Genius! And i think it's because wigs have come so far and are so advanced these days with how realistic they look (which i hate) that a lot of black women who rely on them assume that every black women is on the wig train. I think wigs should look like wigs, not like all this advanced lace shit making it look as if it were growing out of ones scalp. But that's just me. I'm in the traditional starter loc phase right now, but when i was loose natural it was to the point where i would never straighten my hair (or change my hair at all) as to avoid being asked if i my hair was mine while at work, smh. Thx for sharing! And can you put the link in the description box?

Not loc'd but always been natural. I've fended off that question all my life; and when I was a child, my mother did the honors. "Yes, it's all her hair, thank you!". Sis, if you leave your hair alone and keep it clean, it will grow! The worst was when I was driving and my brother's girlfriend at the time actually yanked my ponytail thinking it was a hairpiece. That was over 30 years ago and I have never forgotten it! Yes, you are right. Our own people can be the most ridiculous with that question.
