It does work to cut a pineapple crown apart to get free plants. I have done this process several times. It is easy, not always 100% but it does work. This is a great way to increase your pineapple plants.

The roots normally will grow in time. Always try, never hurts to try.

How long does it take for the plant to grow pineapple? Will they grow in the climate of Los Angeles, CA.?

Pineapples are a warm weather plant. Southern CA is a great place to grow them. Plant them somewhere warm and bright. In the ground or in containers. Depending upon the variety and how happy the plant is, the average time to fruit from a crown is around two years. I have had fruit in 1 1/2 years and I have had fruit in 3 1/2 years.
