Solution- don’t let your kids on social media. Be more observant and involved in your parenting. That’s what you are there for. Don’t blame companies for your failure as a parent. Algorithms have existed for a while and they work as intended based on what content you interact with/watch. I agree the responsibility of parents should be emphasized more. But I do think that the government has the responsibility to create and protect a peaceful and safe environment for us - the citizens - to live in. That includes a ban on harmful, invasive apps. If TikTok is used by 20% of Americans, then the government should make sure that it is not causing harm to its citizens, and that foreign nations are not using it to harvest data.

The issue with Tiktok is that all the information is instantly accessible to the ccp if needed. And of course the can influence the algorithms etc. I don't use Tiktok coz the risk of just opening really personal things to the bad parts of the China gov and sec forces there is also good parts, as everywhere😂😅, is not a good idea. It happens rarely, but if it comes push to shove, yes the ccp, and by the way Any hacker that's interested, the good guys and the bad guys can access every video and all information of users accounts etc. Then again, this is the same with any website. The main reason the US firm Facebook and others are not operating in China because they do not follow CCP law (i.e. censorship). Therefore, they are banned because it is against the CCP law. While TikTok is subject to US law, as are Twitter and Facebook, it is being bullied specifically because it is non-US in origin. The problem is fundamentally different. Therefore, the goal now is for the non-US (Chinese) Tiktok's owners to divest their stakes in the popular video app or get banned in the US. The US could choose the route of extending reciprocal access to Chinese SM firms only when US SM firm can operate in China. However, the stakeholders in the US have to decided if having such policy implemented in the world would be beneficial to it's corporations and people.
