Classic YES's style was so SLICK rhythmically with guitar, bass, drum underscoring the bright shiny Vocals. They really grooved and built emotions

So I grew up with all of the rock bands in the 70’s and heard Roundabout as a 13 year old in a pizza place and then again in two years when I took guitar lessons and I was taught the beginning and middle acoustic parts of roundabout. Then away from yes and back into rock and so on. It wasn’t till the 2000’s that I got back into them with my first purchase of yes “Going for the One” and slowly I got into them and finally seeing them in concert in 2015(unfortunately without Jon Anderson) then I got cancer in 2020 and I had a lot of time to get into music. Yes, primarily all of their 70’s albums. Long story short, I don’t care if it’s “Progressive Rock” or not. If I had one group ona deserted island, it would be Yes Thanks for playing them!!! Sharing is caring🎶🎸☮️

I think it's the best all around Yes album. Every song is so great.

Some of the most pleasing melodic harmonies of all time in the middle of that record.

Yes often sound unlike any other band but this song in particular, I can’t think of any other music like it !

To me, this was the best era of Yes. It's such quintessential prog rock.

Love Bruford's playing on this one. Syncopated and funky. Those fills are dope, too.

This was the Introduction album for many early Yes Fans. I have all the YES LP's (Pre 1982) this one is still the best album they recorded.

This was one of my first Yes favourites, mostly for those stunning harmonies and piano in the middle ❤

YES. Best...band...ever. Thanks !!! for the reaction.

You need to react to the Live version from the 35th Anniversary Concert Songs from Tsongas that is a killer version of South SIde of the Sky. In the 70s Rick Wakeman used to play a 9´steinway grand piano, they used to carry it to the live concerts. Rick´s keyboard gear for this period was: A Steinway Grand Piano, two Mellotrons D400, two Mini Moogs, a Hammond Organ C3 , and an RMI Electric Piano-Electric Harpsichord. He also built his on mixer something did not exist for keys in the 70s.

OK, since you definitely like prog, do I have a band for you. The band is Renaissance and the song you need to hear is either "Mother Russia" (from 1974) or "Ashes Are Burning" (from 1973). The studio album versions are what to go with.

Lordy, when this band is on they are ON. Hats off to Steve Howe: King of the Tasty Fill. He really pushed the ES-175 hard on this one. And that middle section is just nuts. What other rock band in 1971 was recording what was basically a jazz piano trio with a three-part harmony vocal accompaniment? Gentle Giant is probably the closest comparison, although I'm sure CS&N were the main inspiration. If you want more darker Yes try "Astral Traveller" from 'Time and a Word', or especially "The Ancient" from 'Tales from Topographic Oceans' (which is probably the craziest thing they ever put down.) Just be warned -- that one is an album side-long Yes super-epic.

Another fan of Astral Traveller 😊 Such a remarkable song. Dark indeed - that vocal effect on Jon’s voice with such dramatic music. An absolute favourite.

Great reaction as usual Jone. South Side of the Sky is excellent, a full venture into Yes' sounds !! Do you think it's time that you opened the plastic wrap on Tales From Topographic Oceans ?? Starting with The Revealing Science of God (Dance of the Dawn) for example ??! I think we would all like to hear your reaction to the four sides of that album. 😉😂😆 kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXioeq2ZqN2imrc Yes - The Revealing Science of God (Dance of the Dawn)
