This took way too long to happen, and shame on all those who prolonged what should have happened years ago. And now, it's even worse because Chris Squire has left the stage and wasn't there for this. What a shame. And the shame belongs on the heads of those who for whatever incredible reasons didn't make this happen years ago when it should have. Now, we have Rush introducing Yes. I remember hearing Rush on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert back in '74. And I remember somehow getting my hands on one of the original Atlantic records pink colored cassettes of Fragile, and then later Close to the Edge. I remember listening to Chris Squire and Geddy, and to the amazing virtuosity of these two incredible bassists. And so I picked up the bass guitar. I traded in my trombone I played in junior high and got my first bass. My second bass was a Rickenbacker, and is it any wonder why? These two bands were in my top 2 or 3 back then, and have always remained at the top of my list ever since. It's been 43 years I've been listening to them, and loving them. And like Geddy said, they changed me, and I know it was for the better. I miss you Chris Squire. You were the best in my book, and you changed my musical tastes forever. Thank you, Yes.

Personally, I like how Jon was so excited to just get to the mic and start thanking everyone. He isn't even bitter over how he was treated by his band, just so happy to be up there doing his thing. Like a kid in a candy store, Jon knows his role on a stage and that's taking the mic, not thinking about much else which is fine by me..

It's amazing to see and hear two of my prog heroes...Geddy and Alex...speak so fondly about what Yes music means to them, and the memories of their first Yes show. I've always looked up to the guys in Rush as musical gods, but times like this, I am reminded that they are just regular guys like me (though I'm about 27 years younger), because I have fond memories of my first Yes show too, when I was 18 years old and saw them at the Universal Ampitheater in LA. Rush was my first prog band, but they opened that gateway into new musical realms, and it just so happens that Yes was the first of many other prog bands that I would discover next. I had seen their name mentioned a couple of times in the old Visions biography from 1987, and when I came across a self-made cassette of my stepdad's that had 90125 on the flip-side of Hold Your Fire, I was hooked from the first listen. I've since gone on to own every release and seen them live 13 times. They are my favorite band alongside Rush themselves, and for nearly as long. It is amazing and incredible to see them at this event together, especially considering that they haven't crossed paths too many times over the years, despite their mutual respect.

When Jon Anderson got sick, and several shows had to be put on hold for a later date - and Howe had no loyalty for Jon, and insisted on getting a sub for him - I think that that's when he lost the respect of his bandmates. Trevor Rabin - though a different style - is just as gifted as Howe - and is a LOT easier to get along with.

From the New York Times: "The saltiest reminder of this came from Rick Wakeman, Yes’s keyboardist. In performance, he wore a black and silver wizard’s cape, but at the microphone, Mr. Wakeman, 67, was more like a foul-mouthed uncle. He reminisced about sneaking out to a strip club as a young man, only to meet his father. Then, in the too-much-information department, he thanked the ceremony’s organizers for putting his band early on the bill, and explained why, with a detailed and colorful recounting of a recent prostate exam. Yes’s rapid-fingered keyboard solos will never sound the same to me. B.S." What ab appropriate set of initials the writer has. Wakeman was hysterical.

It's truly sad that a band has to be around for 40-50 years before the RRHOF gets off their ass to recognize such great talent. They should have been inducted long before Chris Squire passed away. They shouldn't have to wait until they're in their 70's before they get the recognition

At the end of Rick's speech, you can see him handing the award over to Scotland (Chris Squire's widow) to accept the award on her late husbands behalf, but you can see as her and Rick do a little bit of "wait, what?" as the microphone goes back down and everyone heads off stage. I guess everyone else took a bit too long. Shame. (Her daughter doesn't look too happy about it either)
