I highly doubt that Nintendo will make the same strategy as Xbox, trying to enhance all older titles, with better performance and framerates. The closest it could happen is the games to run on TV quality portably. They always focused on making the most amount of software to run without the need to patch every single software (like GBA running on DS, DS on 3DS, GC on Wii, Wii on the Wii U...) especially the complexity of new hardware and systems, add the fact that to do this, Nintendo will need permission to patch every single software like Microsoft does, which it can cause some issues (FPS Boost cause issues with GTA IV and Sonic Generations for example). A native BC is a feature of the system, it doesnt need permission.

Now I'm curious if games will get better performance or if you will need to get their "enhanced" versions like a lot of other consoles on the market are doing.

The subtext here is "piracy" (the correct term is actually unauthorized duplication) devices like the MIGSwitch would allow a backwards compatible Switch 2 to play copied carts. Nintendo is going to force you to preform some sort of online/verified game transfer, to avoid directly supporting carts and thus unauthorized duplication. Why can't Nintendo just block the use these Switch flash carts on Switch 2? The scene has fully reversed engineered the security of the Switch cart port (thanks in part to the data breach/leak at the company)... They cannot block the use of flash carts while maintaining compatibility with legitimate/legacy Switch carts, its just that simple. I'm sure Nintendo felt pressured to reassure the public of backwards compatibility as a way NOT to discourage sales of current Switch games this holiday/shopping season, while at the same time being vague enough as to NOT admit direct cart support will NOT actually be a thing (leading users like you to potentially question the entire concept/definition of what it means to actually BE backwards compatible *spoiler* without direct/offline cart support its NOT).

The thing with Backwards Compatibility is that on Xbox and PlayStation, outside of this generation where games still release on Last Gen, and Last Gen still has loads of games that are REALLY worth playing…I don’t think many consumers used backwards compatibility up until now. Except for Nintendo. Because Nintendo’s Exclusives A. …Are Nintendo Exclusive, we buy the system FOR their games, enough said, and B. Nintendo’s Hardware at release hasn’t been up to snuff with the competition since the Gamecube. Not many people bought the Wii U, but I’m willing to bet a LOT of people who did buy it used the Backwards Compatibility, and it did improve how the games looked due to being in HD, even if the games themselves didn’t look better. For Nintendo, backwards compatibility is an actual selling point, rather than feeling like a bonus feature like it was for the others Pre-2020. TL; DR backwards compatibility has always made more sense for Nintendo, and while it makes sense why the Switch doesn’t have it for the Wii U, (Both because the Wii U used discs, and…it’s the Wii U), it was pretty obvious it was probably happening…Like you said tho, nice to get confirmation!

Nintendo has pretty much done backward compatibility since the Game Cube/Game Boy. Well, the Wii and the Game Boy Colour/Advance (depending if you count the GBC as a "new" Game Boy over the original).

Really hope part of this is we see enhanced ports of games. Even just better graphics, frame rates and load times would be great. Extra features beyond that would be awesome.

Big win actually, less consoles I have to carry around 😊 I mean I keep the console but I don't have to bring it additionally just to play 1 specific older game I feel like playing that day
@VGF8023 күн бұрын
This really does prove that the only reason we had so many wii u ports was to compensate for the lack of backwards compatibility for the wii u to switch since it would've been ridiculous to implement a cd player on the switch.
@Kniffel10123 күн бұрын
No, it was so Nintendo can make more money. The decision to make it backwards compatible will also lead to them making more money, because the Switch was successful and they can just continue to sell its games without reducing their prices! =)

@@Kniffel101no?, they did the ports due to the disc to cartridge change, money also comes to play here but mostly due to the way they handled physical format

The next big question is will switch games be enhanced on switch 2? Botw in 60 fps sounds amazing(no I dont game on pc)
@lol-ih1tl23 күн бұрын
I don't think that BotW would receive any changes because it'll inevitably get a remaster in 2027 as part of the Zelda remaster tradition. The game would also require a complete overhaul to run at 60fps.
@MLennholm23 күн бұрын
@@lol-ih1tl Oh gosh, it's crazy how it's only a little more than two years until BotW reaches remaster age. When Wind Waker HD released, the original Wind Waker felt like ancient history.

I don't get why there are people who are acting like this is new for Nintendo. Wii was backwards compatible with GameCube. Wii u was with the Wii. GBA was with the GB. Ds was with the GBA. 3DS was with the DS. The ONLY time there was no backwards compatibility since the GameCube was between Wii U and Switch, and it was very apparent why that could not happen.
@cryptocsguy928223 күн бұрын
@gabeskai yh and no backwards comptibility between the switch n 3ds , the gamecube n n64 , the n64 and snes , the snes and the nes m ,the nes and the color game tv and the gameboy and game n watch. The SNES CPU is backwards compatible with the NES CPU but for whatever reason Nintendo chose not other bother implementing backwards compatibility at the user level (backwards compatible graphics hardware , cartridge interface , sound hardware and controllers )

N64 = cartridge GameCube = mini DVDs. Good luck inserting a cart in a GameCube.

@DontKnowDontCare6.9 gamecube had the gamecube GBA link cable which was used for the GBA games on a TV , could have made something similar for n64 games

@@cryptocsguy9282 what else is there to say than holy crud that's such a bad faith argument. Between you ignoring "Since the GameCube" or you choosing a system that existed at the same time as the Wii U so you can get the "technically its not the only time". Congrats I guess. Guess that begs the question, which system are you saying the switch followed up then? Should the portable hybrid console have been backwards compatible with the disc-based system, or the handheld with 2 480p screens? Cause either way it's very apparent why it couldn't happen. Unless you're suggesting it should have been backwards compatible with both?
@cryptocsguy928223 күн бұрын
@gabeskai if a computer ir a smartphone can play wii u or 3ds games then a switch definitely could. Obviously because of the 2 screens that's no ideal , doesn't change the fact that it doesn't have BC for those systems
@robertwahlstrom23 күн бұрын
Yeah I would really want that if we can have it. A lot of games would probably benefit from upscaling or extra power. Think it would also be smart from Nintendo to keep people in the eco-system by letting their digital library carry over.

They said NSO, all your games are tied to the account, and NSO handles cloud saves, once you move your account your saves would be moved too.

This has been known before we even knew a successor was coming, as long as you paid a little attention. Not to mention, Nintendo keeping the same manufacturer, and the Switch being succesful and being (kinda) portable guaranteed having BC. It's the Game Boy all over again.

Sounds like many people were hesitant to pre-order new Switch games , out of fear that they couldnt continue playing them on the next gen console and would have to rebuy a Next Gen version of the game eventually. This Announcement will hopefully relief that fear. Its certainly a good thing to know that XCXDE will not launch just on a console at the end of its life cycle , but will be able to be played beyond that. So at least history wont repeat itself , it seams.

This is a lot of good news. My main concern, however, is that the remaining focus on the Switch will give Nintendo another excuse to keep prices the same, especially since much of their AAA catalogue will likely remain in print for a few years, at least.

That’s a relief. All the signs are pointing to a Switch 2 but you just never know with Nintendo. They could just as easily announced their new console to have a built in projector that runs games off magic jelly beans and is controlled via telepathy, or some nonsense.
