Sorry, for me the video seems like to not cover a very important notice. The -10 PAD is available on the LINE CHANNEL gain indicator it seems like. The mic gain indication just says "0-+50" So can someone answer me if the PAD function is also available on the mic input? Thanks
@mutzmusic57379 ай бұрын
Thanks for putting this video together. Around 8:20 of your video, you mention the outside number is for Mic level and the inside level is for Line level, but I think it's the opposite. I also own the Model 12 and if you go to Manual on page 62 (Section 16 - Specifications) under Inputs and Outputs, it says Mic Input Gain adjustment range 0 - 50db, Line/INST Input Gain adjustment range -10 to +40dB. Either way, your point is well taken that you can Pad down the volume input if needed.

Thanks, and yes. I read them backwards. It happens from time to time. I figure people will still get the point, though. Cheers.

Doesn’t this mean that… it doesn’t have a pad? As the mic signal can only be gained up from 0 DB input and not down. 😂

My question would be, how do you know which scale to use in what circumstance. Ie. either Line -10 to +40 or Mic 0 to +50.

Does the Model 12 on the 7/8 and 9/10 with a stereo input, can you use an XLR on one like 7 and a quarter pin on the 8. Does this recorded separate from the two? Just like the 1 thru 6 channels being mono. I had used an XLR on the 7 and a quarter on the 8, and it cancels the 8 channel when recording. Do you have to use both channels with 2 1/4 to get 8 recordings?
@RobertHamm6 ай бұрын
Hello, Yes. You can use XLR or 1/4" on those inputs. Check out the manual for more details. All of the inputs on the Model 12 are XLR and quarter inch combo jacks for inputs. So use whichever input you prefer.

Is it possible to record effects like delay on a vocal? I have an external effects loop set up on Aux 1 but it doesn't record. I think I'll try an insert. Probably the only way I'll be able to record with the vocal affect audible on playback. Any other thoughts as to how I can route this?
@me_fault6 ай бұрын
It should be possible. Are you using Model 12 or 16 / 24?

Appreciate all the nerd talk. Didn't even know what a pad was or did. Now I know. Thanks, man.

This was such an EXCELLENT video that EXCELLENTLY explained the Tascam Model line in detail! Thanks Rob!!!!! I now have a clear understanding of the pads on the Tascams! My Model 16 is coming in next week! I'll be using it as a DAW'less Audio Interface/ Mixer with my MPC Key 37. I've seen videos of the Tascam Model 12 and how it's the perfect mixer for the MPC One, One Plus and MPC Live, but I need a few more channels to record vocals as I'm using "Stereo," to record my samples, and with samples (from records, iphone, etc...), I use L+R. With drums and other plugins, I use mono. So, the more channels, the better, even if I decided to connect the Key 37 to a DAW. New Subscriber here!!!!

Tascam listens so much, that I’ll keep asking for the sidechain source on the channel compressors 😜
@RobertHamm10 ай бұрын
Yes, and ask for automation, too, lol! That or plugins.. Tascam does a good job with their updates and product support. I hope they continue. We may see some additional features hit the model 12 because of it's hybrid architecture. It's easier to add stuff after the fact. Cheers.
@alexandrosroussos10 ай бұрын
@@RobertHamm never thought about automation but yep that would be cool. Also : a master compressor + limiter in addition to the existing EQ for some mastering capabilities. We could even imagine this in the simplified form of per-style mastering presets in the menus.
@RobertHamm10 ай бұрын
The nice thing is that on the Model 12, Tascam could make a lot of these changes because of the digital MTR. SO, fingers crossed.

The siund on sound article came before tascam made the gain and pad feature on a firmware update
@RobertHamm10 ай бұрын
Gain, yes. PAD no. You didn't watch the video. You would have seen the PAD is hardware- it's been on the knob since the beginning.
