Let’s join us on a journey to Ha GIang, where the Tay people, one of the most important ethnic minority groups in the region, have revealed a part of their indigenous culture. In this video, we delve into the fascinating process of how they build their traditional “nhà sàn” (stilt houses), which are not just homes but a reflection of their deep connection to nature and their knowledge of working with the land and its resources. From locally sourced materials such as wood and palm leaves, with skillful hands and smart techniques, the Tay people build strong houses which can adapt to the mountainous terrain in Ha Giang.
By learning about the Tay people’s construction methods, we have deeper insight into a sustainable and environmentally friendly way of life. YESD are proud to contribute our efforts to preserve this indigenous architecture in the recently fast-changing world, along with developing the local economy in a responsible way.

YESD’s mission is to increase employment for underprivileged youth in the tourism sector and promote responsible tourism. We do this by educating a new generation of tour guides and increasing the skills of indigenous people. Our students are trained in many areas, from Vietnamese history to the fundamentals of responsible tourism. We teach them the steps needed to protect the environment and preserve their culture and tradition. We also instill in them a passion for passing along their knowledge and cultural values to international visitors, enriching their experience.
