I was at the Jeffrey Maier game in 1996. From my seat in the upper deck off of first base, all I saw was Jeter hit a home run and tie the game. I remember Davey Johnson came out and they announced the Orioles were protesting the game, but me and my family had literally no idea why. While that became one of the most remembered moments of that post season, for me, in the stands, at that game, it was an important HR to tie the game, but the real hero and moment of that game was when Bernie hit the walk off home run to end the game. In the 4 train on the way home that night, it was Ber-nie Will-iams everyone was chanting while banging in the walls and roof of the train. Great memory, great Yankee.

Bernie is more deserved of the “Core Four” than Posada. Posada was a backup for the first two in 96/98 while Bernie carried the team. Change the name to Core Five. I know it doesn’t rhyme but it is accurate. Give Bernie his respect.
@JackieDaytona1776 Жыл бұрын
Give Jorge a little more respect for '98 - he was more of a platoon with Girardi than a backup. He caught 99 games and started games 1 and 2 and pinch hit for Girardi in game 3. I think maybe 6 times a week about how much we took Posada's talent and role on the team for granted. Not taking ANYTHING away from Bernie, but Yankee fans know Bernie was a part of that core. Just how they know Gene Michael built that dynasty, not Brian Cashman. I get so irked when they try and act like Cashman built 4 championship teams, he bought one and has completely destroyed this franchise today, fire the guy.

A catcher is always more valuable than an outfielder, because there are so very few who can help the offense without killing you defensively.
@JackieDaytona1776 Жыл бұрын
@@GeraldM_inNC I agree, but I would argue Bernie had bigger moments with multiple October walk offs. Posada was critical as a pillar of the team, but is there a reason I'm thinking the biggest hit of his career was a bloop single in the 8th off Pedro to score Hideki in game 7 of the 2003 ALCS? Yankee fans let me know if I'm missing any bigger moment and while I'm at it - fuck Pedro Martinez I still hate that POS
