Hey, Peter. I just wanted to pop in and say that I’ve been subscribed and watched your videos since I was 11. I’m 19 now. While watching this video, I realized when you were talking about anxiety that that’s why I love your videos so much. You’re honest and genuine and even if you do doubt yourself, we all believe in you (if I didn’t, I don’t think I would have practically grown up with you lol). You’re great, man. And to be fair, I would pay so much money to see you draw live with live music playing. That seems like a pique tranquility experience 😌

The content free podcast is the only thing I find jarring. The other videos I’ve got used to ads popping up, just like most of the rest of KZbin. Some channels only put them at the beginning and end but all of those channels heavily emphasise that they can only do that because of heavy patreon/member support. Except in the case of Dave Bull who seems to use it more as an advertising opportunity for his business rather than an income stream in and of itself, so I don’t think that really counts as he doesn’t need KZbin to cover living expenses.

“Gödel, Escher, Bach: the Eternal Golden Braid” is a fantastic book. I urge everyone to check it out: a 1979 book by Douglas Hofstadter. By exploring common themes in the lives and works of logician Kurt Gödel, artist M. C. Escher, and composer Johann Sebastian Bach, the book expounds concepts fundamental to mathematics, symmetry, and intelligence. Through short stories, illustrations, and analysis, the book discusses how systems can acquire meaningful context despite being made of "meaningless" elements. It also discusses self-reference and formal rules, isomorphism, what it means to communicate, how knowledge can be represented and stored, the methods and limitations of symbolic representation, and even the fundamental notion of "meaning" itself.

Live improvisation can be intimidating. It gets easier every time, but it will always have that excitement and possibility of disaster. I was in a band, and we would improv for the first 10 minutes of a show without having anything planned out. My guitarist would walk to the mic and say "we're gonna jam for a while", then turn to us and say "go". Those were the only instructions. No chords no tempo no time signature. After doing that for a couple years, I noticed my general anxiety was a lot more manageable. (Also, I feel like your group Bach to the drawing board would make poetry readings a lot more entertaining.)

How to win friends and influence people: When I was a teen I decided to join a youth group to try and make some friends. We were going up to a concert that was a 2 hour drive away. We all hopped into the minivan to head off. It was then that I smelled dog pooh. So I said out loud "I think someone has trod in pooh" So we all got off and begun checking our shoes. To my horror it was me that had trod in the pooh. To make it worse, my shoe had smeared it into the carpet of the van and we had no way to clean it. And so the whole way there and back all we could smell was dog pooh. 4 hours of pooh smell... and it was winter so opening windows was not really an option. Suffice it to say that was my last time with the youth group.
