they are indeed awesome, but neither is straining for the notes. the are just dramatically emphasizing what they are feeling as they sing. both women actually have similar ranges...they just have different colors to their voices. many want to classify Erica with a lower voice label such as a alto(contralto) due to the darker, huskier quality to her voice, but that doesn't affect her range, which again, is not much different than Tina's.

hey. i'm not sure what it is nowadays with female singing voices, but it seems that almost everyone wants to label them as mezzo-sopranos or contraltos(altos) when clearly they are sopranos. many are basing it on something they read in Wikipedia or in a critic's review of a singer and/or that singer's music. i'm not saying you do this but, many people don't know what they are speaking of when it comes to singing especially when they apply classical terms to non-classical singing voices.
