@Blake Belladonna Well, ONE of them did, which is part of the reason he sadly has that reputation. Doesn't help that he associated with the MPAA, which had a lot of anti-semites, and Henry Ford, who WAS a known Nazi sympathizer. That being said, there's a difference between antisemitism and having poor choice in friends, and it's probably the latter. After all, even Art Babbitt, who LOATHED Disney, passed on the opportunity of calling him Antisemetic. And while he had his flaws (being notoriously anti-union for example), he does get a rather undeserved bad rap, considering it's based on friends and the word of one disgruntled employee.

That’s bc a lot of original “fairytales” were very dark (would be super cool if they had kept the original and made it an adult or pg -13 attraction... also generally the Disney in Paris is darker than the ones in the USA which I find interesting) .... basically Americans and other westerners watered fairytales down and made them have happy endings (eg if you look at the original brothers Grimm stories like Hansel and gretal, it’s much darker than the version that’s told today).... also you can see the difference in how fairies 🧚♂️ are portrayed- if you meet a true Irish person who has had stories passed down generations, they’ll tell you of evil creatures that will punish you if you disturb their ring forts or make them angry... the American versions have all been sweet and only get sweeter- look at tinker bell - she originally was a bit vindictive and mischievous (but at times sweet) but over the years she has gotten more and more sweet in various depictions...

This is a long story but here we go. When I went to Disney Land I was 9 years old (I think) and Sleeping Beauty was my absolute favorite movie. When my mother and I walked near it I ran up the steps and she ran after me. I was thrilled and I loved all of it... that is until the Malificent parts. When I heard her laugh and saw her. I shreaked so loud and started bawling my eyes out. I ran down the stairs and pushed past my mom yelling "SAVE YOURSELF MOMMY!" I ran into my dad's arms (he didn't go in). She came out and saw me clinging to my dad and she said "don't you want to finish the tower? What about true loves kiss or the fight, that's your favorite part!" I just slumped down on the ground and told her she would have to carry me up. I always thought it was a dream but I saw this and all the memories can flooding back to me. What a beautifully scarring experience. Edit: This is making me realize I was such a drama queen.

I loved this!! Thank you for the thorough history...I was a decorating cast member when we cleared out the animated figures. I can definitively tell you the reasons besides the obvious, were: extensive structural damage(many dioramas were completely caved in from rain and firework damage), the need for security cameras, and ADA compliance. My team repurposed the figures on Main Street, and I myself rehabbed and created the Forest Dancing scene inside the castle shoppe. They were handmade beautiful treasures and I’m so happy I was part of the castle’s new chapter :)

Funny thing about that. I go to Disneyland often, since it's about 15 minute drive from my place, and a LOT of people don't know it exists - or that it's still around. I can't count how many times I've overheard people complaining about how they miss the Castle Walkthrough, only for me to tell them it's still there. I think it's because of the low profile - the sign is rather small compared to all the stuff around it, and since there's no line/ropes you can easily miss it unless you already know where it's supposed to be.

Yeah, those dolls and the department store window animatronics weren’t up to Disney standards. What they had before was way better. Well done, as always! I had no idea that there was an older, classier version of the walkthrough before the cheesy 70'd redo, nor that the recent reimagining had so much to do with that original version! So cool! 14:14, the spear scene is my favorite! I took my daughter there when she was 5. This tiny small scene is pretty basic. Guy walks back and forth and all you see is the shadow of his spear. It’s so small and potentially forgettable, that my family completely bypassed it. I made my daughter take a closer look. Naturally, she (and myself) attempted to look down to see what was casting this shadow, but then BOO! One of the goons pops up to look at YOU! Scared the crap out of both of us, because neither one of us was expecting it. Was super funny. Couldn’t stop laughing! Took so long for the gag, that it wasnt worth attempting to repeat.
@rr0binx Жыл бұрын
I had to find footage of this gag/jumpscare because I was genuinely convinced that you were confusing it with the peephole goon gag, but nope; one video I found from a 2022 walkthrough shows them. apparently there's actually two jumpscares, one at the spear section, and the one right before it (the little window you look through and it's like a hallway. if you stare long enough a Goon pops up). It definitely jumpscared me while watching the video. If it genuinely does take a long time to happen, then it must scare very few people who look at them, which must mean it's a rare thing to see

@@rr0binx I guess you probably can’t get away with links, but are you able to give me the title, or video ID number for that? It took so long that it wasn’t worth getting my husband to look at it. But I can imagine witnessing a group of people like us, freak out and laugh, only to have another family try to see what was so scary/hilarious that they stand for an awkwardly amount of time then give up just as it was about to go off.

Thanks for this video. I have always been fascinated by the Sleeping Beauty Castle walkthrough since I watched it on the dvd the Maleficent shadow at the end also brought traffic to a stand still because kids were so scared, so if the Goons slowed it down...

This was always my favorite thing as a kid. i remember crying when they were doing refurbishment around the castle and closed off access because whenever I went I had to get a drink from the drinking fountain near the enterance.

I remember the walk through in the early 90's on a trip with my sister and cousin. We were all young adults who had grown up seeing the re-release of the movie in theaters as kids. It wasn't flashy or exciting but I remember just enjoying the nostalgic simplicity of it.

Sleeping Beauty’s castle at Disney Paris made tears stream down my eyes. It’s so much more magical than the original

I basically grew up in that castle. I have early memories of my parents carrying me up the stairs, and also crying when I heard Maleficent. Haven’t been back in a while, but everything about it I remember and love.

In Paris they have a walk through that’s easy to access and you can watch all the ppl entering the park through the castle! It isn’t as elaborate as what you describe but it has story book pages and such and is actually quite beautiful architecturally and has stained glass

i always wanted to go inside sleeping beauty’s castle as a kid (i’ve only ever been to eurodisney and was very disappointed at the lack of an attraction) so watching this felt a little bit like realising a childhood dream!

I've been to Disneyland many times over the decades and I had no idea this attraction even existed and I thought it was Cindarela's castle. I'm glad they brought it back one day I'll have to check it out.

One of the doll scenes lives on, beyond the Main Street ones. If you go into the princess shop in the wing of the castle (on your left if you are walking to the carousel), near the back is Aurora and her Owl prince

3:30 To add a happy ending to this, Disney actually employed most of the cats as mousers to my knowledge. They were paid with food and shelter 😊

at 10:52 you catch a glimpse of Prince Phillip's sword and shield, it's even in the concept art. As a child, I brought this to the attention of a cast member in the gallery that used to be above the Pirates of the Caribbean that this was inconsistent with the film (the gallery was a great place to get insider info. back in the day). In the film, Phillip loses the shield and the sword when he plunges it into Malificient's dragon form. A month or two later, these two props had been removed from the attraction! Of course the entire attraction has since changed, but this is a fond memory of mine as I believe I was able to affect this change. :O

Oh wow......cool to see Art Linkletter asking the kid where she wanted to go at Disneyland. I loved watching Art when I was a boy in the 60's. Haha Art even made a celebrity cameo on " Batman ". He was looking for inspiration about a new series with colorful costumed characters. Batman and Robin told Art that Gotham was just a city with ordinary people.
