A lot of British cities that end up at the top of these worst lists (Luton, Peterborough, Swindon etc) aren't much to write home about, but they were never meant to be: They're commuter hubs. I'm from Letchworth mate, been to Bury Park for food thousands of times. The cafe food there pisses all over fancy restaurant "interpretations" of eastern food more or less everywhere else in the 3 counties area. For example a standard UK restaurant curry is just oil, sugar and chillies with no flavour served up to make pissheads' faces go red before they throw up the 8 pints of crap lager they just drunk. I also used to get sheep chops from Halal butchers down there too, it's all lamb in the supermarkets but I prefer older sheep or goat because the flavour is more robust. Lamb for roasting, sheep for casseroles and curries. My favourite chop is neck, lovely meat from the neck.

It was so funny to see Luton featured in a Yes Theory video.. as to me it is such a random town in the UK. I've only been there once, but it was actually a yes fam member that got me to go. Originally it was for the airport, to fly out to a country I've never heard of (Chose it randomly with someone from the Yes Fam) but before my flight, with the way the timing worked out, after my train ride I had about 12 hours to kill in Luton. Never heard of it before. Im a Canadian and I had barely seen the UK much so I didnt know it was a good or bad town.. Well after getting scammed by a taxi driver to a storage unit so I didn't have to take my suitcase, the storage unit owner was one of the sweetest English men I've ever met, offered me a cup of tea and even let me charge my phone and hang out there for a while. Then sadly my phone ended up dying on me right before sunset, and I had to catch a bus back from the town to the airport for my flight.. and without google maps I forgot how to find the bus station. Saw these 2 rough looking buskers who were playing the Beatles (one of my favorite bands) and I asked them how to get to the bus and they not only helped me, but we sang together for a while! And then on the bus back to the airport, as I had my ukulele with me, these random travelers saw it and had a mini ukulele and together we played them for a good 10 minutes together. And then from there, I spent the night at the airport and got my flight fine! Despite the very expensive cab ride, I never felt unsafe here. Yes some areas looked sketchy, but so do many other areas in the UK, especially in London.. in fact I felt about the same kinda sketchy vibes in Luton as I do in London, but as a tourist the main thing is to just be mindful of your stuff while you're there. Sooo what was started as a random journey to a foreign country thanks to a yes fam member, ended up having me spend 12 hours in this random little town north of London. Thanks for bringing back those memories! Loved the collab xxx

Most centres of cities look rich and nice in the UK. it’s built for rich people and if you don’t have money it is like living in a third world country. The living conditions are terrible, i’ve had to be put in emergency accommodation multiple times because house inspectors say the conditions are uninhabitable. When you get to the poor parts, it starts getting REALLY bad. Every person on the streets are either in a gang or high on drugs. There is litter everywhere and no one respects you at all.

Tbh there’s definitely worst places in the UK. Those lists omit smaller towns and also they’re usually based on metrics like crime, schooling, quality of living, average wage etc. But I’ve been to numerous cities that are ‘worse’ than Luton and there’s a load of smaller towns that wouldn’t even appear on a lot of people’s radars. Most of what makes towns in the UK bad is that they’ve been forgotten by the governments and left to crumble with barely any funding or care and attention put into them by authorities. Like the only jobs you’ll get are working in retail as there’s no industry, no agriculture and very little business so people have to move to bigger cities to find work

They intentionally avoided going to the areas that give Luton it's deserved reputation. A lot of the people involved in major terrorist attacks came from Luton. Lots of extremists. Al-Muhajiroun extremist group was based there. High crime. Hate rates of poverty. Drugs.

@@chrisf9377which bits of Luton are you talking about? There’s a fair few clips in the video in bury park which is the hub of the Muslim community in Luton. The most deprived areas of the town are probably Marsh Farm and Lucy Farm which are predominantly white.

@@nivviey eh I think our city centre just looks bad from any angle, a lot of homeless people unfortunately or people who are high

I live 20 miles away in another much derided City called Milton Keynes. You hear a lot of tired stereotypes about here as well that are just not the reality for the residents. We also hear negative things about Luton and have a lot of Lutonian commuters come and work here - I will reserve judgement until I actually spend some time there (other than going to the airport) but the people are sound. I do wonder if some of the negative descriptions of Luton are borne out of racism with it having a very large Muslim population.

lutonian here, at least you guys have a good shopping centre
@chrisf93778 ай бұрын
That makes no sense. Muslims can be any race. I'd suggest that the reputation is related to high rates of segregation, poverty, unemployment, drugs, anti-social behaviour & crime. Also many people who committed terrorist attacks or went to fight for ISIS have come from the town. And there have previously been lots of problems with extremists in the town (E.g., Anjem Choudary).

MK's bad because it's essentially the UK's answer to an Americanised city; the entire layout of it uses roundabouts (kinda the UK's version of cross-sections) and it's very square by design as a result. I will say though, the Centre MK's a good day out and the Xscape bit's also good. Also has one of the more modern stadiums in the region so not like the area's completely bad but it's not an organically designed city considering it was a village about 50 years ago
@Wimpleman8 ай бұрын
@@3BeatsProd the square layout is very efficient as are the roundabouts. The planners learnt from the problems of older towns and cities and gave it vibrant and very green infrastructure with a multitude of off road cycle paths. The roundabouts help alleviate traffic and the grid system works because if one road is closed, you just drive around it. These roads are not outside houses endangering children either. It's actually well planned, but everyone derides one of its strongest features. I think the fact that every fast road has lots of trees surrounding it and the roundabouts are also green, it does all look the same when just driving through. The Xscape is OK, it's just a generic entertainment complex, maybe I am a bit spoilt and take it for granted but there are no independant shops or anything you can't find in many, many other places.

Luton was my home for a few years, and it has so much to offer, but somehow, its bright side remains hidden. There are so many memories of this small town. Excellent production!

In some ways it reminds me of South Africa. Lots of people like to go on about how bad everything is and how it all sucks and many move away, but I know it has immense potential and that’s not going to be reached, nothing is going to improve if everyone moves away

I have been to the UK many times, but I have never been to Luton; however, one reason to love Luton is that my mother and her family were moved to Luton, when she was a young child, during World War II. They lived in London, and they survived the bombings because of being relocated to Luton.
