Winter poisoning is the “easiest” as the animals are seeking water. I learned of this horrid practice when I worked in a disaster area in Louisiana. Put up a sign in Bulgarian & Russian stating there are security cameras ! Make sure townspeople know your cats were poisoned. That they weren’t Strays, but valued & it’s upsetting to know someone came to your property to kill your animals. Rural gossip will work from there!

There are just 10 residents in the village and all of them now know that the cats were our pets. We hope that nothing like this will happen in the future

I have heard people complaining about the abandoned animals in Bulgaria, but you are a terrific example of making a (small) contribution (caring for your local strays) and making a huge impact in the world. I can’t even watch all of this video, my heart goes out to you. British neighbours in our rural village had their lovely dog poisoned and we all suffered with them when the village pooch, a real character with one eye and busy busy nature suffered the same fate. When buying some bulk flour(25kg bags) recently in Sliven, we ran into some big bags of dog food(kg) for 13 leva. I'm not sure what the going price is in small pet shops for that size. We grabbed a bag and if I'm in a pinch I'll even give it to some local stray cats. 😁❤️ I'm glad your using the Patreon funds to feed the sweethearts. I get it, I really do. ❤️❤️ Enjoy the family coming to stay. And may God change the hearts of those who cause destruction to the innocent. Keep your heads up! Sorry to hear about the cats, but they're often seen as predatory pests in country areas. Is it possible that they've been exploring and drunk some antifreeze from an open container, or even licked drips from a leaking car radiator?

Thanks for the comment 👍 Unfortunately they only stayed within our borders. The closest neighbours house is 200 metres away, and closest car even further. Others in the area have had similar issues in the past. It is something that happens here more frequently than it ever should. But we can't judge Bulgaria or it's people based on a vile few.

Good luck to you. Everything means something so these events are kind of futures so you have to work them out. I have been doing this for years and you have to think in a new way. So you are being shown something about your car and the number plate might mean you need to change the car.

Is it possible that they probably wandered to some of the neighbours place. cats are known to wander especially in mating season. I grew up on a farm in Jamaica and some of ours would go missing for weeks during mating and the harvesting of avocado seasons . Anyway, chin up Mate and get some cameras up when you can.

It happens all the time, in every village. Especially to dogs with puppies. Cats will also be shot by the hunters, speaking from bitter experience. It's a mentality which will hopefully change over time. Feel your loss.

Sadly its common place, locals will place poison on food in their barns/sheds to kill rodents and strays. Cats will wander so its more likely a neighbour had placed bait on their property, had it happen to a couple of our cats but never our dogs. Now remaining cats are indoors, really sorry to hear it happened to you.

We have three cats that we brought from the UK, we can't imagine how awful it must feel to be targeted like this. 😢 This is very common here, there is no laws protecting animals like in the UK, its insane to think anyone would do this, we've heard some horror stories. As a result we don't let our cats out, it just isn't safe for them, there's also snakes and foxes which can be sods too. Hope the other boy pulls through

Hey guys, sorry about the cats but unforunately these things are quite common in rural bulgarian regions.. I personally have lost a couple of dogs even though my house is surrounded by cousins and such.. so there is always this one guy say 50+ years old that is a hunter or something and is shovinist as f*k that does such idiotic crap, so definitely done by someone in the near houses that sees the cats as pests that come into his house. As for the police.. they can fine you even if one of the two light on tha back number has burned out.. they can be really annoying idiots and sometimes they are really nice guys depends on the person unfortunately. Having been pulled over by traffic police is normal. It is not because you are '' bearded and tattoed brit'' as some of the reviews said. The only reason they pulled you over was for money. It is sad, but traffic police is very corrupt and they expected you to tip them. I have done this a couple of times myself, But I don't do this anymore. It is up to you. You either accept the ticket and pay the charge ( depending on what you have done wrong you might lose points too), or you pay them 10 or 20 lv and get away with it. It is easier, it is quicker and Will save you the hassel, But it is not right. So if that happens again don't be suprised, it is your decision how you Will sort it out.

Sorry to hear about your pets. My way to cope with such life events is to assume the least negative explanation, but take precautions against the worst. In this case, for example, I would assume it was a tragic accident (cats found random source of poison, or perhaps a severely misguided and dimwitted person thought they were "helping" by euthanizing "neglected strays"). Putting my most "positive" spin on such an even helps deter me from descending toward a jaded, cynical, and misanthropic outlook toward the world. However, assuming the "best", I would still plan for the worst explanation, i.e. some unhinged person hates you and/or your animals. That is to say, I would try to proactively protect my family, pets, and property going forward in a ways that are practical and effective, but also stop short of being obsessive, desperate, and fearful. Low-life people do occasionally litter the landscape of our lives, but try your best not to give them any power over your happiness moving forward. Bin the losers, and seek out the good people; they're much easier to find. ;-) Like many things, this can be easier said than done. ;-) Best wishes to your family!
