This song resonates so deeply as someone who struggled with abuse and trauma. Even a decade later I still have nightmares and need my partner to hold me and make me feel safe from my abuser. And even then there's times where I'm so lost in my flashbacks that he just needs to be there for when i come back to reality.

Since I'm born and raised in Germany I'm slow with realizing meaning of English song lyrics while listening. And today in the shower the realization of what she's singing about suddenly hit me. Also this video and song both capture the message so well. It’s like that dizzying feeling in a dream where you feel drunk and the wind blows you around no matter how hard you try to stand your ground. The mixture of the distorted sounds and echoed vocals with acoustics and a crystal clear voice. The frantic build up to a chorus that washes over you. It’s the perfect representation of finding someone or something that grounds you through feelings of depersonalization and trauma.

throughout yeule's discography so far, there exists many songs that i could easily consider my favourite, as each and every track from the artist exudes emotion and effort. 'Don't Be So Hard On Your Own Beauty', however, seems to be taking the cake all for itself lately. every facet of this song radiates with beauty, from yeule's choreography and fashion, to the visuals. as someone else mentioned in this comment section, having to account for how the movements would appear normally and in reverse takes a great degree of dedication! what stands out most prominently to me, however, are the lyrics. throughout every song i experienced so far, never have i ever come across someone who speaks so definitively and wholly about "Love" as yeule does in this track. the manner in which they, as the writer, convey their feelings through the narrative is so pure, and so heartfelt. the pinnacle of this, as according to my personal interpretation, is that 'Don't Be So Hard On Your Own Beauty' is not explicitly about romantic love! from how i see it, the narrator could be speaking to or about a myriad of individuals. a romantic lover, a friend, a parent, a sibling or cousin, perhaps a pet. possibly even one's own inner or higher self, the person an individual wishes to be. regardless of who they are, or what form this figure takes, they are the one (though perhaps not the only) existence in the world who will reach deep down into the darkness each and every time to return you to bright white light. who looks past every wall, wound, facade, and scar to see you for the true, complete, and beautiful person you are. much, much love yeule. your style, impeccable. your artistry, unparalleled. here is to you! 💘
it's been a few days since i entered deeper into your world... and everything you create is so impressive and so beautiful ♡ …i became very solitary and isolated in my own reality over the years.. i read some of your interviews and your words resonated with me. You inspire me to grow infinitely inside my own little chaos and to keep filling it with my sounds, visuals & poetry... and maybe one day i will connect to my people ♡ ˝𝓜𝑎𝑟𝓢 ˝

Currently, The sullen look on your face Tells me you see something More pure in me than this dirty When I’m With you I no longer have tainted flesh Where violation teared my dress before you Took me away, I could not see past this horizon line With my dying light that’s overgrown with Thorny vines and piercing through The only vein that’s still okay You let me cry, and wipe my eyes And make me feel something other than Desolated nothing I am desperate in a nightmare Where I’m trying to find you In a maze, with no staircase, I’m stuck and breathless In the backroom of a spinning hall, Dizzy, I crawl and trip down, Fall again, you pick up all my guts Spilling out, bruised up, bloodied up Oh, I look into your eyes and See a bright white light and You turn this horrible place Into, Orange light, sunset in sight You tell me not to Be so hard on my own beauty You still Hold me even though I’m made of fire burning through You hold me gently, but these Thorny vines and piercing through The only vein that’s still okay You let me cry, and wipe my eyes And make me feel something other than Desolated nothing I am desperate in a nightmare Where I’m trying to find you In a maze, with no staircase, I’m stuck and breathless In the backroom of a spinning hall, Dizzy, I crawl and trip down, Fall again, you pick up all my guts Spilling out, bruised up, bloodied up Suddenly, Curled up In a ball In the bathroom floor Unconsciously I feel you, Shake me awake From a bad dream With my eyes Open

wow, i have never seen such a beautiful music video. Usually i do not care for music videos that much, but this video caught me off guard. The effects, the nature, their expressive dancing, their costume ,the music and the camera... It is artful but not artificial, simple but not low quality, quirky but very intimate. on top of that the reverse effect adds a mysterious tone to their singing. it feels so studied and perfectly put together without loosing it's simplicity. artists often want music videos to be over the top or artsy to the point where the emotions or the production style feels forced or incoherent. but this video does not feel to me this way at all. And I am just blown away by how the colour effects and the tone of the music create such a nostalgic feeling.

I hope you're wrong.... about the lucky few. Yeule should be getting way more attention by now in 2023. The talent and dedication is abundantly obvious. Unfortunately the industry (including mainstream media) seem to be ignoring her/them. The best us fans can do is to support Nat however we can, whether it be buying her/their music or going to her/their gigs. I feel the issue is... Yeule the artist has been lumped together with the wannabe Grimes of this world, which I think is grossly unfair. Yeule has a style of her/their own. As far as I know Grimes has never made a record that sounds remotely like "Don't be so hard on your beauty" . Must be so frustrating for her/them. I think Yeule secret weapon though is her/their ability to evolve and adapt. Time will tell I guess.
