am not a critic of music, as I don't have even the basic knowledge on music ; rather I don't deserve to comment on the compositions of MSV; but neither I am a fan of any of the Music Directors , but has been a regular listener of great Global Music -of Baroque, Classical, Disco, Country, Waltz, heavy metal and Pop music. Most of the directors of Tamil, Hindi film industry of yester years and the present day including Ilaiayaraja and AR Rahman lift the tunes / beats from the albums of the geniuses like Jim Croce, Antonyn Dvorac- New World Symphoney-- Allan Jackson and such other legends; but the tunes/ beats of MSV are still unique and could not be imitated; the present generation should listen to extensive genres of music to have the feel of uniqueness of the Cre

This program of ygm might turn out to be a monumental and unerasable program of mannar kudumbam. The anchoring presence of lalitha mam and a thoughtful camera work of babujee sir have given flavour to the episode. If there is one person who has got the stuff to go deep into msv work its YGM only. Not because he's a great fan of msv. But he has the enough technical and aesthetic knowledge on music, instruments, expressions of singers and cinematic situations of the songs . He was at the plum stage (mid 60s) when a great transition was ushered into tamil film music in particular and indian film music in general, by msv. Being a "live" theatre personality , ygm knows exactly what an ordinary rasigan and elite rasigan would expect from the drama. So he was able to visualise msv at ripe age both as an ordinary rasigan and as an elite music lover . So, his views on msv and tfm , carry extra wide angles and taste buds of representing a generation as a whole. Its a triple tamaakka that he has similar knowledge bank on kannadasan and NT sivaji ganesan. Msv was the common factor for this trio and msv, vaalee,mgr trio. None in the world music would run parallel to msv's music travel ,as pointed out by ygm as.....either before or after msv. The nuances of msv was clearly pointed out in each word of ygm. It was a big disappointment that he couldn't dwell upon the work of mid 50s msv, although he was able to explain the domain dominated by great GR and KVM mama. But we need a minimum 3 hour detailed episode with ygm to understand msv music to satiate our expectations on msv and to hear that from "a horse's" mouth. A sumptuous meal overall. Its not that easy to interview a free flowing, thoughtful and tasteful outpouring person like ygm. But our subhadra mam has carved a niche for herself in this episode too as does she with every other program of mk... Doesn't she ?. May be, this is why she is so indispensable in the mk group. Very interesting anecdote about singers not able to reproduce what MSV could do. Sachinda was reportedly like that. He was such good singer, Dev Anand said once only Lataji could do what he wanted. Rafi once forced himself to record several takes of one song just to try get the way SDB could easily do. Finally he couldn't and Burmanda said he's happy and stopped it.

Since you never heard of YGM, it does not mean that he is "NOT" famous. your knowledge of movie industry is that munch only (I agree on the fact that knowledge of movies is not at all necessary for life). Y g mahendran many of the music lovers have different opinions from you. Yes msv is one of the best composer on his time especially old with rama moorthy no doubt on it. But don't forget Ilayaraja gave another transformation of cine music for eg. his songs interludes and preludes and background score he is no1 if at all you don't like IR music don't under estimate him it before IR and after IR, so IR is equater

If you listen to music, MSV laid down very good base from the then cinemas. Ilayaraja is improved it. Ilayaraja himself says MSV music is "Aathara sruthi". Improvization is tough only. the basic is the base. MSV and Ilayaraja are great in their own Era. But MSV transaformation is great. MSV is the greatest. Ilayaraja comes next because he started from MSV style then he improvised. guess who is the base. After Ilayaraja no more musicians. Just a note - I am great fan of Ilayarja. Ilayaraja himself is greatfan of MSV. I leave it to you who is "Aathaara Sruthi"
