YHWH Raah - The Lord Shepherds Me

Psalm 23 is a famous Psalm where we get the nickname YHWH (or Jehovah) Raah or "the Lord is my Shepherd" from. Yet, there is so much more going on in this verse.

@0:51 "Psalm 23 is the only place where YHWH is called a shepherd". See Ezekiel 34:11-16? Related to your observation about New Testament references: see also messianic promise in Ezekiel 34:20-24 pointing us forward to the Son of David [Jesus of Nazareth]. Overlapping Ezekiel 34, Psalm 23, and John 10 is a powerful harmony of scripture that highlights even more the "meta-significance" of each of these. I might also add that Psalm 100:3 seems to refer to / use this same image of YHWH as the shepherd of his people, even if we aren't given an explicit use or some other form of this Hebrew verb.

In the Ezekiel passage (and I think Psalm 100 as well), YHWH is being shown more as the owner of the sheep who is looking to establish a trust worthy shepherd. Remember, if someone had large flocks they would be rich and would often have others watch over their flocks (even if it is the sons who do this job, the sheep still technically belong to their father not to them).
