Which makes me wonder if you could just upgrade the firmware on the Yi 1 and get the same results as the Yi 2. I know a lot of electronics who claim to be 2nd generation of a product are mostly just a firmware upgrade. Same goes with my Gigabyte motherboard technically it can run AM3+ CPU's but they didn't want us to save money and just upgrade firmware, we have to go out and spend more and make them richer.

Even though yi 1 is more shaky due to the absence of the stabilization thee colors are more clear and realistic than the yi 2. Also i like the lens flare on the yi 1 which i didn't see in yi 2.

Can you tell me how the picture quality (not video) compares between the YI 1 and 2? I have an Yi 2, and I'm just curious why the sensor in the Yi 2 has a lower MP rating. I know that MP does not mean anything by itself, but since they should both have the same size sensor, and the YI 2's should be higher quality, why is it lower?

For 4K video 12MP are enough (if you crop top & bottom to 16:9 you end up at 8MP which is 4K). Other reason is the 16MP sensor used in YI1 can't do 4K output. For photo the YI1 might be actually better and benefit from the larger sensor. On the other side, the processor of YI2 is faster.

Well, for almost the same price you can get Git2 which offers a screen and it has the same sensor. Easier to change settings without a phone. If you are willing to spend a bit more, YI 4K is my favourite in that category.

Difficult to say. YI 1 has a 16 MP Sony sensor, the larger sensor benefits higher resolution in photo mode and is maybe a bit better in low light. But this Sony sensor is not capable of 4K resolution, only the 12Mp sensor used in YI 4K. there might be a few differences but the effect some of the main specs.

No, only YI 4K got it. There is a 3rd party LCD screen for YI 1. The field of view is pretty wide due to it's wide angle lens, so pretty easy to guess. If you want to be sure and precise, you can use your smartphone.

I bought the Yi 2 and am having major issues with the sound. The rattling/crackling noise you are getting from recording the rails here is 100 times worse when I am recording on my motorcycle (exhaust noise mostly). With my old gopro2 I never had issues with sound using the exact same mounting placement. Any suggestions on possible remedies would be greatly appreciated!

Actually I think the sound is pretty good. Don't get distracted by the "noise" in this video - it was the actual noise on the track. 2 days ago I did a video during a firework and it leveled pretty fine, even the music is recorded pretty fine. i already use yi cam chinese version. but the image is not sharp enough. should i refocused it or not?

The yi v1 has more FOV

I think that's because of the image stabilization, it narrows down the FOV and uses the "extra space" of the sensor to stabilize the image.
