Yiddish Glory: My Mother's Grave (Live at Koerner Hall, Toronto)
From the Grammy-nominated album, "The Lost Songs of World War II"
"My Mother's Grave" (1945) was written by a 10-year-old orphan, and details his grieving after losing his mother in the Holocaust. He walks away from her grave knowing he will never see her again and realizes she will never be able to tuck him in at night. The song
probably resonated with not only with children, but also with soldiers and other adults who survived the war but lost their parents and grandparents in the violence. Soviet Jewish elders were among the first ones to be murdered by the German Army. The feelings of guilt and powerlessness are especially prominent in Soviet Yiddish songs of survivors.
Isaac Rosenberg: Vocals
Sergei Erdenko: Violin
Beth Silver: Cello
Artur Gorbenko: Violin
Mikhail Savichev: Guitar
