Once on my way to work. I saw a kitten lying on a sidewalk, flat on its side, motionless. As I got close, it startled and ran to a bush. I found it under a bush at lunchtime and grabbed it. It bit me badly but I wouldn't let go. I tried to call a coworker to bring a box quickly. My hand was bleeding onto the phone. The phone and calculator icons were green...so first I "dialed" using the calculator. Soon the kitten was in a box. I went to the doc for a swollen bitten finger. By dinnertime the kitten was still frightened and not eating. I called the vet and they took him in right away. They x-rayed and gave him pain med. Determine his leg was broken in 2 difficult places and couldn't be mended, but that cats do well on 3 legs. I was offered if I paid for the x-ray and relinquished it, a group would cover the surgery and the vet's office had an adoption center. I hope it has had a happy home...that was about 5 years ago. It is no nice Hope for Paws has a connection with Cares and fosters as well as many of the rescuers go in pairs. That all helps with the stress of the rescue...for the people and the cats.

The most important thing right now is for you to heal from your open heart surgery. ❤ I will never forget sitting outside the operating room as my ex-wife and co-founder of Hope For Paws had her open heart surgery... an 8-hour-long surgery! She recovered really nicely from it, and it changed her life (we're now 14 years after the surgery, and we're still very good friends). On your next visit to Los Angeles, please come and visit us - I'll be more than happy to introduce you to all our new rescued animals. Please rest, eat healthy food, and we will meet soon. 🥰

I just had to say good-bye to my tabby, Sneaker, last week. I rescued him and his siblings (who were adopted out) from the my neighbor's wood pile 16 years ago, and was able to rescue, spay and eventually get his mom in the house 15 years ago.
