I'm ok if WotC wants to make magic a poor people game, but then the price of boxes and boosters has to follow. If you charge more, I expect to get more value in return and I expect my cards to retain their high value (which they don't because of all the reprints).

$500 will buy you a brand new PS5. Not that it hasn't already, but this is even more totally reaching the price point where people will just disengage and buy other luxury goods and lifestyle goods that compete in the same price bracket. This combined with the shrinking amount of discretionary spending the majority of US/NA consumers have? Not sure if MH3 is it, or something else in a few years, but there will be a tipping point where profits can't grow like this. If the trend of box prices just keeps increasing this drastically, at that point who are Hasbro selling to? Sure, "whales" but the price-per-transaction of 5 X $750 boxes, is very different psychologically than 200 X $15 transactions, 300 X $10 transactions, or 600 X $5 transaction. And this is scarcely scratching the surface of the differences between whales in free-to-play mobile games vs. MTG consumers vs. gamblers in a casino. The house always wins, but they can't win if "losers" don't show up.

We're in a golden age of tcgs. It's no longer just the Big 3. FaB will cross the 5 year barrier this year. Weiss will be 17 years old this year. Lorcana, Digimon, DBZ, and One Piece are coming up and establishing themselves as serious games. Lorcana and Sorcery had an explosive start out of the gate and folks are clamoring to get game pieces. Magic and YGO are on the back foot and struggling to remain relevant. YGO has serious gameplay issues, and MTG is very quickly pricing themselves out of market share.

Universes Beyond is a great idea to bring people in but people can't pay $400+ every 3 months for whatever special product they wanna push this time, it just isn't feasible, especially with Flesh and Blood and One Piece offering more reasonable prices for cards with value. You can make reprinting Fierce Guardianship exciting only so many times before people start to look another way.

I'm feeling more and more confident about my decision to get out of magic last year. This is getting ridiculous and these prices are out of control for stuff they will just reprint endlessly. The only smart move they've made is putting unique art on serialized card IF that happens. Its such a cash grab at every level and it just wore me down as a collector. Its sad and I won't say ill never go back but nothing is safe at all as an investment. Dockside is approaching 80 bucks so at least one reprint this year if not 2 and thats the problem. Getting a case hit isn't what it used to be.

I enjoy the social experience when I need to get out of my bubble. And if you happen to be a bit like me when it comes to playing the game, collecting cards, and a bit of the chase on the cheap (that definitely hits the spot 🤫) Well, you don't need to try that hard. Rudy is the wrong guy when it comes to enjoying the game so don't get caught in his gravitational pull. He's the best whale hunter in the TCG space so try your best not to get caught in his net. And Hasbro is cornering the secondary market as any professional would do. The gig is up for Rudy and the entire Timmy army. And you should be glad you're getting all the goodies in English, unlike Portuguese and Chinese cards that are being discontinued.

I find it hilarious how people talk about the value of fetchlands currently, when pulling 8 per box would tank the value. Fetches are like 15-25 a pop. So 20 times 8 is $160. Not even a third of the box and all of that is before the price goes down.

What a JOKE!!!! Even if the price gets adjusted and goes down, we won't buy these boxes. Our group stopped buying collector boxes 15 months ago. Most of the time, Wizards does not give you much value for their OVERPRICED sealed boxes. I don't buy the reduced print runs because if a product sells well, they can always print more and release it later in the year. We skipped Ravnica Remastered, Karlov Manor, Fallout, Thunder Junction, and MH3. Our group will wait a few months to buy singles or buy proxies. Fetch lands will tank in price. Why pay these ridiculous high prices for a box? You could buy some old Reserve List cards instead. I think Fallout Commander decks will be just like the Warhammer 40K decks. I dont think this is MTG30.. I think this could be a Commander Master disaster (which is to say a good product way way way overpriced for most hobbyist). Honestly though, at 550 a box (TCG Price) I don't think most people would be interested. Even if you were guaranteed a fetch in every collector booster (a mint KTK goes for around $30) you be shorted $180.

WotC has made plenty of design mistakes, but sets like Wilds and Ixalan 2 show that they still have good ideas and talented designers. @@Aldrnari956 That is likely to be the case, however, I must admit to being curious what MH3 has in store as MH1/2 gave us Wrenn & Six, Hogaak, Force of Negation/Vigor, Rags, Saga, and Evoke Elementals. Unless, MH3 is part of a balance patch... which would be an insult to injury. Karlov was ultimately hampered by bad mechanics and the unfortunate floundering launch of Playboxes. However, outside of the limited experience, there are some good cards in a set just no game-changers like Beseech or Cauldron orTishana. I admit I'm slightly more optimistic than most(ly everyone), but at the very least, Pro Tour Chicago showed there is indeed room in the meta for these cards.

I will happily buy Pokémon, FAB, and Sorcery but in terms of Magic anymore, proxies are the way of the future. Hasbro/WOTC have killed any sort of interest I had in collecting MTG/buying real cards. Ever since OG Throne, Magic isn’t special anymore. There’s 50 variants for a single card which made the game feel so blah. I like what Pokémon, FAB, and others do - one single booster box and that’s it. I still love playing Magic but I can’t justify spending money on it. Even Reserve List cards. I just don’t care anymore. Papa Hasbro and WOTC killed Magic in terms of collectibility and I doubt they’ll ever recover.
