Omg! I'm so glad you're reacting to this dance performance! I love this! Apparently one of the inspirations for this dance was from Tang dynasty pottery figurines. The colours of their clothes are especially iconic as it is called "Tang San cai" which means "the three colours of the Tang dynasty" (literal translation). It's is an especially traditional colour combination of that time used on glazed pottery (might I add an authentic piece of this pottery is worth in the millions). Therefore when you see this colour combo, you would immediately associate it with the Tang dynasty. I think the colours are fun just like the performance and the dancers have lots.of personality. So when I first saw this i was immediately captured and delighted!

There's a TV drama recently which depicted the details of the creation of this dance (我们的十年), it brings me to watch this dance again. All girls have their splendid moment once in their life. Thanks much for the video reaction.

According to the historical backgrounds of the ancient figurines that inspired this dance, the dancers were meant to be youthful cheeky little girls on their way to perform at the palace banquet, hence their childlike figures and playful antics.

Hi Jack, I guess the main idea of the show may be trying to show us how the Royal Performance Group does the rehearsal, long waiting for the official performance (some are sleepy) and finally perform on the stage of the Tang Palace Night Banquet. What do you think?
I think this all girl orchestral was hired by the emperor to perform at the fiest in the palace..At the end when the basuns sound -it is time to go in and perform for the emperor and his guests.. I hop he liked it...

Those girls were music performers meant to play music in front of emperor during banquets.
tang dynasty was one of the period where her national and cultural strength and prestige were at a zenith so much so that modern chinese, especially southern chinese like cantonese, hokkien and teochew refer to ourselves as “tang people” and china towns are called “tang people street”.
