Created with Vocaloid 2 and Lipsync. Finnish and English subtitles are included. What's Vocaloid? Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.or...
Lipsync homepage: www32.atwiki.jp...
Vocaloid Choir performs a patriotic academic song of German origin, composed for a male choir. Interestingly, when I made this video, I had no actual male Vocaloids! :D The only 'male' voice I had was Mikuo (genderbent version of Miku) so he had to perform all the parts. Kaito, Gakupo and Kiyoteru would have certainly added some colour to this Mikuo only choir, but I had to make do with what I had. Feel free to comment and give constructive feedback!
Song info:
Name: Ylioppilaslaulu
English translations of the name:
1. High school graduate song
2. Upper secondary school graduate song (more accurate)
3. Student song
Original German: Auf, ihr Brüder, laßt uns wallen
Composer and lyricist: Joseph Hartmann Stunz
Finnish translation: Unknown (I hope its copyright has expired!)
English translation by me.
Info: J. H. Stunz was a Swiss composer, choir leader and a conductor, who made most of his carrier in Munich. This particular piece of music had originally four stanzas, but the Finnish translation summarizes all the stanzas into a single stanza. Hence, the short length of the song. Besides, the song would be quite gruelling for the 1st tenor if the song was performed with four stanzas. :D More info on Stunz (in German): dic.academic.ru...
The matriculation examination is an important exam that upper secondary school (kind of a high school) students take in Finland. How you succeed in the test, affects how easy it is to get into a university. Info on the examination: en.wikipedia.or...
A student who has passed the examination is known as ylioppilas, a term which I try to explain below:
The term ylioppilas is actually composed of two parts: the base word oppilas meaning student and the prefix 'yli' denoting seniority or higher level. So,
Oppilas = Student
Ylioppilas = Senior/higher level student

Development history: I started the Vocaloid work on the 2nd of September. As stated above, I used Miku's voice as the base for Mikuo's voice. Vocaloid has various user controllable parametres for all the singers and the settings I did for Mikuo were: Brightness: 127 and Gender factor: 106. The resulting voice may not fit Mikuo's looks very well but the main thing is that it fits the song! :D Although the song is short, it took me about six hours to fully finish the music, as I have become ever more careful in perfecting the pronunciations. Still, I think the pronunciation could be better at times. After I had generated the wave file with Vocaloid, I added the reverb with Nero Wave Editor. On Sep. the 4th, I opened the song's vsq file with Lipsync but, as always, the best looking lipsyncing is achieved by manually finetuning automatically generated lipsyncs. It took me about 3-4 hours. I made Mikuo by modifying SaNari's original Miku (using GIMP). I wanted to include some kind of a patriotic Finnish propaganda poster in the background, but I wasn't sure about the copyrights, so I decided to play it safe, and include a picture that I have a permission to use.

With enough post-processing and maybe a little more tweaking, this can be very well Mikuo's voice.
