Daddy Derek is such a fascinating creature. According to my google searches, he is American: born in Virginia and has lived in California and Nevada throughout his career. And yet, his grasp of American English baffles me. His scripts are so confusing, and one might think he is trying to use simplified English in his “kids content,” but even when he is speaking out of character his accent (speech impediment?) and poor comprehension of English grammar always makes me think he’s somehow ESL. The American education system failed this boomer but at least he’s having fun with it.
