It's such a ridiculously precise balancing act. Add too much noise, and the story feels bloated. Strip out all the fat, and the bare parts become obvious and contrived.

I personally enjoy stories where there is like 10 trillion things going on as long as they all connect. Imo a story becomes bloated when it adds needless stuff. Even if it is technically bloated, if it all connects it doesn't matter to me. My favourite examples of this is Synecdoche New York or the tv show Seriel Experiments Lain.

@@AGamingEntity synecdoche new york isnt really a thing where 10 trillion things go on but more just a really big crossword puzzle of themes. literally adele's full name you can have a small essay talking about just that because her last name is based on a syndrome where a person thinks their dead when you first see adele's middle name (lack) it could mean that caden lacks adele in his life her full name could be heard as "a delicate art" which describes the type of artwork she does and probably more

YMS did an interview with him. In it, Charlie Kaufman said he had been following YMS's video on 'Synecdoche, New York' and thought they were great and he called him smart, so I guess Charlie does not hate him :)
