Both areas were "given" back during the early 90's for self-rule and administration. Monetary and Material aid poured in from Arab and Western states. Since then, All basics in life seem to be scarce in Gaza but the Hamas administration seem to have an endless supply of rockets and war material. They also have a well built and well equipped tunnel system. While Israel developed its economy along with its military, unfortunately for the other side, their leaders concentrated more on items for the "destruction of the Jewish state". If Israel drops its weapons, Israel would be eradicated. If Hamas puts down its weapons, there would be some form of peace. You don't hear chanting of "death to Palestinians" but you do hear "death to Israel" all the time.
