Jeff Scott Soto is probably one of the most underrated Hard Rock/Metal singers ever....implicitly one of the most modest ones out there. Respect to Soto.

I wholeheartedly agree. A friend took me to a concert of his and I did not even know who he was. I was watching the show in a small venue and next to the dressing room. My friend was holding a camera and signaled for someone beside me to lower himself. I was a bit puzzled. And there he was, Jeff Scott Soto the giant, with his arm around my shoulder and smiling wide to the camera. I had no idea who he was, but we chatted a bit and he was extremely kind and humble. Later on my friend explained that it was Jeff Scott Soto himself. So I waited for him after after the main act, Mr. Big. When Soto took the stage I was completely blown away. I immediately became a HUGE fan. The I found out how underrated this man is. Unbelievable.

He's a hell of a guy. Jeff admits he left behind his Rising Force-era tenor range years ago (before he joined Journey), and though he needs to massively rest his voice and take care of it singing higher ranges I think he's such a pro. This song's vocal was a ball-buster for anybody including him.

This song was written with a haunting medieval Middle Eastern feel. Ritchie pulled it off with one of the best bends, awesome vibratos with his fingers and flanger, wicked arpeggios, mutes and it all added to the haunting feel. And to think that he composed it. Nothing against Malmsteen but Blackmore is a genius. Very inspired composition.

Nothing can compare to DIO his writing and voice, but I think you should see this as it is, a tribute, a dedication to the best. And when so many great artists decide to do a tribute, they will guide the people who didn't know DIO towards his music. And that is why, I think, this albus is a succes.

People... how is possible that all the haters of Malmsteen landed on this video? He is very talented and very skilled guitar player and I like the way he improvises cuz he goes for the last bit of time possible he have to make desired effect and people say it is wankery. How is possible that those wankers land up on video like that? To destroy everything prettier like they are? They made it happen. It went viral. I hear kids sayin that this sucks. So they'll all go soft and pop and Bruno Marsish and what are other softies called I dont know! Invest your time in something else! Dont destroy something that inspires people all around the world since 70' . You haters are probably in love with lady gaga and all electronic autotune crap and u guys like radiohead and coldplay to the max. Leave this alone and go to your happy place. Salute to the people who feels the zone of improvisation the right way! Fkin heavy metal brah, fkin heavy metal!

matija buh so you shit on the idea of having electronic music (as in, machines creating the music instead of people), and yet you want technical mastery?? A machine will blow any human being out of the water, including malmsteen. But no machine can play with emotion like a human. THAT, in my humble opinion, is the true spirit of music. Not trying to play as many notes as you can, but making every single note, no matter how few, count and convey the emotions you are trying to convey.

Incredible solo, amazing intro... Very nice overall And honestly, we're in 2012. Are people still arguing about Malmsteen? He does what he does: he shreds. And when it comes to neoclassical shredding, he's on the top tier. If you click on a youtube video with "Malmsteen" anywhere on the title, you'd better know that''s gonna be some serious, melodic shredding involved. So why bother clicking on it, listening to it and then going "waaaaaaa he shredded the song I HATE IT"?

this album was released somewhere between late 1999 and early 2000. Jeff Scott Soto was Yngwie's lead singer in his Marching Out album. I've been listening to both artists since I wa a teenager and trust me, the singer on this cover is definitely JSS. Ripper Owens has a very different sound from Jeff, but both have stellar voices for metal music.

Great! I still think the Dio Holy Diver Live version is my fave, with Doug Aldrich, Simon Wright, Rudy Sarzo and Scott Warren. Doug's sound is fatter and somehow more excellent even if he's not as twiddly-twiddly fast as Yngwie. Released two years before this, you just know that Malmsteen saw it and said 'hey that Blackmore solo is actually pretty great.'

When was that? This cover is originally from his '96 album, called Inspiration. All songs are versions of songs that "inspired" him when he was young. Even after 30 years later, Yngwie still does not realize that sometimes, a shredder has to play slow, it gives stuff like this a more powerful atmosphere. Fast just ruins it. Some shredders like John Petrucci and Steve Vai have noticed this, and no offense to any Yngwie fans, is why they are ultimately better guitarists. I prefer Blackmore's(Rainbow's) version. Can't be beaten :D

As someone else posted 5 months ago, I try to avoid any commentary on Malmsteen because it's either fan worship or fashionista imbeciles worried he's uncool so they pretend he 'doesn't play with feeling'. Shut up. Seriously, it's old. That 'no feeling' argument makes no sense on any level, just people repeating what they've read in NME and their ilk.

Rising force album holding the strat in the flames changed my life. I was 11 years old when it came out and I got the tape. I was a drummer but this album inspired me to want to express myself on electric guitar with a Marshall plexi stack and strat. To this day I am still obsessed with the tone of the strat and MArshall plexi. Plexi is the glass on the front of the amp and all years plexi are handwred point to point unlike everything Marshall did after late 1973. I had a late 73 cause it is Malmsteens favorite year but I realized late 73 is not hardwired and sounds very different and lacked the magic of the creamy plexi. My 1967 Superlead with basket weave 4x12 like Eddie Van Halen used on the albums up until 1984. There is magic in this guitar rig.

One of those covers that both does the original version fantastic justice and then adds a layer of heaviness on top of it. Yngwie did Ronnie James Dio proud. Plus, didn't they team up and do a cover of Aerosmith's "Dream On" a while after this?
