We were lucky enough to have our good friend, and neighbor, Baker Mayfield at the ranch on Lake Travis a few weeks ago. Baker touched on his unconventional start in the league, his current situation, and his mindset through it all.

@@bound210 He's also the only QB in NFL history to go through 3 different HC and 3 different offensive schemes in his first 3 years in the league. Which plays a huge part in development and team cohesiveness. And if you could actually read with context you'd realzie I said thanks for "helping" change the culture. Didn't say he was solely responsible for the change. But thanks for the obvious remark 🤣

@@bound210 some would say going 7-8-1 in 2018 (Baker's rookie) after 0-16 in 2017 was the turnaround. Baker won more games than he lost in the games he played. After they fired Hue, they finished 5-3. Baker broke the rookie QB record, throwing for 27 TDs that year. He played a huge role in the turnaround. This deal with DW is the end of the turnaround.

As an OU alum, I have watched Baker since he came to OU. After one game, and one interview I saw, I became an instant fan of this remarkable young man. His story of never giving up and his taking the risk to walk on gave me the determination to keep fighting, keep working, to hold off my severe spinal handicap as long as I can. Although I will be in a wheelchair eventually, I will always be inspired by Baker to be a better person every day. He and his wife have given so much back to the communities in which he played. God Bless you Baker! And thank you, Mike, for this interview! PS> I am burning my Cleveland Browns flag, t-shirts, and other paraphernalia. They don't deserve Baker or my allegiance.

@@AdamB34 I am not just talking about football. There is so much more to Baker that the sports media doesn’t ever mention. But you are right about him not curing cancer. And lastly, Adam, I am sorry you are so touchy about my opinion.

@@carolcoen8068 you have literally never spoken to Baker personally. You do not know who he is personally. You know as much about him as anyone else who watches his interviews. This idea that you "know who he is" is ridiculous. All you know is what he shows you in controlled public interviews where he is obviously on his best behavior and trying to always say the right thing. Lastly, I'm not touchy about anything. You were talking in extreme hyperbole about how much Baker has overcome and how amazing he is and it was funny to me. Read your original comment again, you would think Baker overcame having one arm and become a nfl qb based on your description of him. It was just a little over the top, nobody was upset about your comment, it was just hyperbolic and exaggerative

@@horsedarkI played in college and Baker fascinates me. Streakiest QB ever lol. When he's in a rhythm, he can drop dimes. Accurate af in tight windows deep. When he gets down on himself, he spirals though. He's too emotional and is his own worst enemy. People get on him for his height..it's not so much that. You typically wanna find throwing lanes vs literally throwing over the lineman. It's the lack of foot speed. He's sooo slow. He gets really flustered too with a pass rush. You saw in Rams game though, for ex. He can be very good if everything clicks. It needs to be perfect around him though and that's just not the reality of NFL. Just my 2 cents

Browns fan here and will miss Mayfield, I really like him and wish it could have worked out. I think he had (has) good years ahead of him! I do wonder about many NFL players who publicly and emotionally claim to feel 'disrespected' by an organization because they get traded, released or looked past. BUT when a player leaves a team for what they perceive to be a better opportunity, it is always something along the lines of "well, it's just business and you can't be emotional." I guess I'm just wondering which it is.

Damn!!!! Steve... thank you for this awesome interview the end had me crackin up (peacock).!! This interview has motivated me to much respect B.M.!!! B.M., I think you are hella funny in your commercials. Now that I've watched this video, I really appreciate your personality and mindset on and off the field! I'm a #Hawks4Life fan, I'm ok with what we have for the QB spot currently. But after watching this interview... my dude come to Seattle!!! You would fit solid with the organization and team. I posted in the past on different podcast that we don't need Baker, because we have the QB talent that hasn't had the chance to shine yet. I've seen your highlights and I've seen your lowlights. This interview made me trust in you to get it done with the Hawks. I like your vibe, I like that you are not a flashy guy/ stay humble. Your old (clssic) car, Golf cart (choke it twice) floored me!! That's awesome, stay humble for real. Also the "they'll know your fake" comment was what sold me for you to come play for the... excuse me... play with the Hawks!!!! Your energy, focus, drive and confidence would be a perfect fit. Keep that boulder on your shoulder my guy and any team should be lucky to have you! #Hawks4Life 💚💪🏾👊🏾💯💙

Terrible interview! Who are all these drunk cocky frat kids? Interviewer seems full of himself.. spent an overwhelming time on his own drunk commentary than getting to hear from Baker *No wonder Cleveland said they wanted an adult* So unprepared and unknowledgeable on basic things too. Went from 4:51 “being a fan of yours” to .…. 5:03 Unaware Mayfield started off at Texas Tech as a walk-on? 20:41 Doesn’t know Lincoln Riley hired as new coach at USC? 30:53 Clueless on his OU charges and arrest that was all over media? 41:58 Not sure who won the freakin Heisman? And no question on the Beckham situation [?] Alot of critical questions went unasked cause interviewer had way too many drunk rants

Interesting what baker said. He’s always had that underdog mentality. I do wish baker would of had more stability during his tenure with the browns. 3 different head coaches. 4 different offensive coordinators. I think that could mess with anybody’s growth. Whatever happens baker, best of luck to you with your next team.

Sometimes one’s stability has to come within them. If he played up to expectations then those coaches wouldn’t have been fired. Plus he did have a coach of the year for 2 straight seasons and looked like a bottom 5 qb the second year

@@bibo5854 I mean it’s give and take. Baker had Landry and perriman his rookie year. Then 2019 was kitchens and the entire team was ass. 2020 came and baker did good. Then 2021 and he gets injured and the whole issue with Odell. I cannot blame the browns for upgrading the QB position. I just wish baker had a better chance to succeed when he was with us. Have a lot of respect for what Baker did for this franchise. Part of the ups and downs was his play, have to take responsibility for being part of that. At the end of the day, Browns looked around the AFC and knew it was an arms race at QB so they decided to put all their chips in for Watson.

Worked with the Longhorns when Baker was at Lake Travis, Tech and OU. Wasn’t a fan of his then for obvious reasons. When he became the first walk-on to win the Heisman I started learning more about him. Been a big fan ever since then. I put up with a lot of shit for it too. I know some of his Lake Travis classmates who said he is great guy when you know him. All everyone else see’s is what is on TV or media. This interview gives people a glimpse of who he is. I loved it. Will be defending Baker until the end. Hoping he makes us both look good :) Give’em hell Baker. You are a Panther now. Oh…btw…I grew up in southern Mississippi and went to same high school as Brett Favre. He was 4 years ahead of me so I watched him play since high school. Brett was so afraid of losing his job he got addicted to pain meds. Baker knows all of this. He played hurt to keep his job. The last time he was hurt (Tech) he was replaced. Maybe that’s why I like Baker…reminds me of Favre. Glad he got all healed up and look forward to watching him shut everyone up.

I have nothing but love for Bake! He is or "was" the best QB we've had since Bernie Kosar. The fact that I got 2 watch him at the helm when we made it 2 the playoffs and won a playoff game is something I will always cherish and will always root for Baker throughout the rest of his career! I hate 2 see him leave on a bad sour note but the fact of the matter is that Deshaun Watson is a upgrade and that's the business. He even said it himself that in the NFL your job is never safe. But like I said, ima root 4 him the rest of the way and I wish nothing but great things for the man. Thank You Baker Mayfield.......and GO BROWNS!!!!

I loved his presence at CLE. He's exactly the dude we needed when we had him. I think it's bullshit that the first season he gets hurt, we drop him. DW is a machine, no doubt. But he doesn't have the thing that works in Cleveland. DW just secured his, his kids and his kids' kids future with that contract. I don't know what motivates him but with the shit hanging over his head and Cleveland being as unforgiving of QBs as any NFL team in history, it's difficult to reasonably believe that he'll have the resilience to withstand this fucked up organization. Baker could if it believed in him I'm almost certain. Good luck 6. You're going to be great man.

@@DivineTQ It sucks it came off that way. I tried to convey that I don't know what motivates Watson and that I made clear that he's a great player. Top 5 in my book skill-wise. Mentally, we just don't know. Mentally, we have a much better feel on Baker. We also have his skill; not injured and under Stefansky, he's top 10. And hes the only QB in 20 years to survive the historical level of bad that this organization has been. Thats it. I hope DW kills it. And I wish Baker the best.
