I just heard this for the very first time this morning on ABC Radio. I have been repeated 3 times already. Honestly it’s the most beautiful music that I’ve heard in so long. Absolutely perfect in every way 🥰

I heard this piece for the first time sometime in early 2017. I found an "instrumental music" playlist that had been curated on iTunes so I put it on shuffle and quickly dozed off. When I awoke, Ascending Bird was playing and I think after hours of Beethoven, Mancini, Scarlatti, and Tchaikovsky, my ears woke me up in a state of confusion. What was this I was hearing? It certainly wasn't the type of music I was used to but I didn't hate it. I was so intrigued that I downloaded the Azul album just so I could listen to it again. This piece is breathtaking! I love all the moments of frenzy and chaos that are followed by a sort of calming resolution that acts as a balm for the listener for example 2:35-2:50. I was just listening to it again this afternoon and I had a thought to see if I could find a live performance of it. Holy CRAP was I glad to find this on KZbin! I love live performances and footage of the artists actually making the same recording I've been enjoying. . .? EVEN BETTER!!! There are so many things about this performance that I enjoy but the part that strikes a chord (pun intended) the most in my heart is seeing the expressions on the performers faces. You can tell when they come to parts of the piece that they enjoy from their sated, self-satisfied grins. I've played piano since I was eight and I performed in orchestra (clarinet) and chorus (mezzo-soprano) from the time I was in high school all the way through college. From my expericence as a performer I know the parts I usually smiled through were the most challenging, the sections of a piece that required hours of practice to perfect. And that moment, the instant the interpretation you've been seeking FINALLY is translated through your body and through your instrument is a virtually spiritual feeling, you almost can't help but smile when you come to that part as though it were a hurdle you've swiftly surmounted. This performance is definitely being saved to a playlist for me. Thank you to whomever posted it!!!

2:23 Great lead into what i can only assume is the inspiration for the THX intro theme! I also have ABC Classic for uncovering this amazing piece for me.

Heard this song on KZbin Symphony Orchestra, back in 2011. Fell in absolute love with the song, it's gorgeous. This recording of it however, I'm not a fan of, and that's a shame since it has someone as revered as Yo-Yo Ma in it.

If I were YoYoMa, I would not play the cello with people who are not famous as much as I am... But HE does play with others. I love, respect, honor this aspect of his. Such a personality he has makes the Silkroad wonderful . The COHESIVENESS his ability makes is really strong, powerful and even attractive so much !!! Anyway , I love his playing !
