Honestly, I don't understand how you guys came to think Huget is a great player? The only reason I can think of is because France were atrocious all along his international career and that made him look better in comparison. At test level, he's absolutely nowhere near the best wingers in the world. Scoring 14 tries in 62 test matches is actually completely underwhelming for a player who almost always played at the wing.
@Wyzli4 жыл бұрын
France strongly based their team on their previous package, especially in 2011 and subsequently also with a conquering scrum, the wingers therefore scored little. watch during the 2020 VI Nations tournament, most of our tries are not scored by the wingers but by other players (Ollivon (4), Willemse, Dupont, Ntamack (3) and vakatawa) Teddy Thomas and Vincet Rattez only 1. Since 2011 this is nothing new for us. *Sorry for my english i'am french.

To score a lot of tries wingers have to rely on a strong offensive back line, good half backs, and a gameplan that gives them loads of good balls. Huget has done most of his career in a time when France's attack was uttelry sterile. However he's been putting up great performance with Toulouse since a few years and with France in 2019. Except for 2015-2017 when he was coming back from a crossed ligaments injury, he's been a consistently good player for France during a period where France was shit, and, as Guirado, carrying painfully on his shoulders a team to which were not given the means to compete on the international level. He probably would have had an incredible career with any other team. We're all gratefull for all he's done. I wonder if Jonny May would have scored much more tries than him if he played for the 2010's French team. Usually when you're team is atrocious, you don't shine in comparison, you look worse that what you could because you can't show your full potential. But the truth is Jonny May would never have been as appreciated as Huget in France. Huget is the epitome of French rugby. A crazily talented player, able to put up both incredible feats and monumental failures in the same match, but with a great fighting spirit, always ready to give everything he has. That's what you might have seen in this video : both great actions and enormous tackles that you'd never expect from a British winger. How could Jonny May or any other player be this endearing?
@Toghebon4 жыл бұрын
No worries for your english mate. I know France relies on strong packs, but that didn't prevent Teddy Thomas to score almost as many tries as Huget in just 20 test matches in the same dire time span. Yet Huget is overrated in France and Thomas is repeteadly spat on for his rather mediocre showings in defence -- on the other hand, how many times have we seen Huget miss tackles, get caught out of position in defence, attempting failed rush defences and interceptions, costing his team a try? This is a tribute video so obviously, you're not gonna see his many failures in there. It's a very weird conception of defence that a winger should be a team's leading tackler/defender anyway. You want good tackles to be made ask your flankers, your second row and ultimately your centers, not your wingers. Wingers aren't meant to tackle players up front, otherwise it's just a wrong use of them. What they should be good at is outrunning opposite wingers, both in attack and defence, and Huget wasn't particularly good at this. Teams that have been successful lately are all team whose wingers score a lot. May, Ashton, North, Stockdale idk, Tommy Seymour and Sean Maitland why not, prolific wingers are the sign of a healthy team. And although Ollivon is France's best try scorer in this year's Six Nations, it's also because Penaud hasn't been there lately and Thomas doesn't play as much as he should. Rattez is a bit average to my little personal taste. Anyway I respect you guys 's opinions, it's just a bit sad that you're overglorifying this guy and giving no credit to Thomas at all, just sayin'
