This sequence was highly requested! Here is it with some tips from me:
Flexibility Tip #1
If you label yourself inflexible, notice if the voice in your head telling you, "you're not flexible" is a mean one.
One of the biggest aspects a comprehensive yoga practice (that's often overlooked) is observing your own thought patterns and working to eliminate any negative self-talk.
Flexibility Tip #2
Remember that flexibility takes time. It's only through a consistent, on-going practice (with a focus on the long term) that your body will adjust.
Do your practice consistently because you love it and it enriches your energy and mind (aka get addicted to yoga for all the right reasons) and suddenly you'll find yourself in pose 6-months down the line that you never thought you were flexible to do.
You'll just slip into it.
It'll just happen.

Flexibility #3
Remember that flexibility is relative. I feel highly inflexible when comparing myself to the gymnast yogis on Instagram and ballerinas at my dance class. Even I have to remind myself that the goal isn't to look a certain way, but to feel good in your body. Flexibility should be about your well-being, not vanity (although it's definitely fun to have goals).
Yoga is about a balance of flexibility, strength, breath, centered-ness.
It's likely that if you think you're really stiff, you're very strong in other areas (physically, mentally or both). Flexibility is just one aspect of the practice.

I second that! I have been interested in doing yoga for a while but seeing people bend into positions that I can't even come close to always feels awkward and demoralising.

Brett, thank you so much for making this video! I am 5'11" with impossibly long legs, and I've always felt like I couldn't go to yoga class because I'd have to ask the teacher to modify so many poses for me. Touch my toes? Not even close! However, I just finished practicing with you and not only does my body feel glowing, but I feel happy and confident. You are incredibly generous to upload your videos to KZbin for those of us who don't have extra income. I can't wait to check out your anxiety meditations. Keep doing what you're doing, you're a beautiful person and it shines through!

I've been practicing yoga on and off for about 8 years now and I needed to find a video like this to help with my flexibility issues. I'm one of those people who always grabs two blocks, a blanket, and a strap for every class. So thank you!

I realise I'm very not flexible. I had a hard time to maintain position for most of the exercice. I nearly gave up, but tried to the end. I'm proud of myself for doing so. I will definitively redo that class at least 3 times a week or more. I feel my body already thanking me for this.

At first they were painful and numb, and then eventually I felt this flow of energy through that part of my body. I couldn't stop smiling, I even laughed. I felt so relieved. Thank you very much, this was one of the best experiences I have ever had.

I am 60 years old and have fought flexibility issues all my life. I had back surgery in my mid 30s. Nothing has released my back like the stretch where you drop your foot to the ground at the end of the video. Will be doing this stretch and sequence a lot. Thanks soooo much

I have suffered with Piriformis syndrome for close to two years. I have been doing this beginner course on repeat about 5 times & my body feels like it did prior to the injury that caused the syndrome in the first place. Thank you for this. I think the secret is doing the stretches longer, because I have done these same stretches with Physical Therapy-but not for the duration they are done on this video.

Brett, I really want to thank you. As an overweight 40 year old man who has suffered years of inflexibility I have to say that this instruction is top notch. First of all, the moves can be done by me (though the first night there were some issues). Secondly you explain the moves very well including explaining that it's okay to not get the move perfect. Thirdly, I never felt intimidated by you. By that I mean I really felt like you cared about how I did the work and never had a condescending air about you. Thank you so much. I'll be doing this video until I can graduate to some more complicated basic moves ;)

I think you've forgotten what being stiff feels is like!? The pose at 6:21 is the first example of my body saying "no way" It would be funny to record myself trying to even attempt some of these shapes/postures to give you an idea of what out of shape/stiff people really look like when they're following along.

@@hamie58 I had to stop and pull out of poses a few times or didn't get all the way down to where she was but as long as I am moving in the same general direction, I'm going to count it as progress.

Oh yeah...2:54 thread the needle, I can't get anywhere close. So many of the videos on here supposedly for stiff and inflexible people are done by very young flexible people who have no idea what's out there.

I felt the same. But i didnt give up and now this is the best thing ive ever done. Listen to your body, breath through the pain and be patient. I PROMISE YOU. THREE DAYS and you will notice a different and that accurate pose will no more be impossible!

Thanks this is the first class I've been able to get all the way through. My body is riddled with osteoarthritis at 55 after living a very active life due to the pain I'm trying to find something I can continue to maintain my mobility. I will definitely be doing this again. Namaste 🤗

Oh and at work, we stretch before we start work and I always reach up, clasp my hands and stretch up, then spread my arms out and lean back to bend the back and open the chest. When I would come out of that, I ALWAYS had a few seconds of light-headedness. Since last Thursday, I can do this without getting lightheaded. That is exciting to me.

My body felt stiff and painful when I woke up this morning, so I wanted to find a yoga class just for that. And lo and behold - here it was! As simple and basic as this practice seemed, it was still quite challenging to hold the poses for this long. I feel a lot better now, so totally worth the effort! Thank you! :-)

I am green at Yoga. I've straightened out my curved back with an acupressure mat 1-2.5 hrs each night but I found out a week ago that Yoga is what I need to get my stooped shoulders back.I've been watching videos for a week and decided I needed to gain some flexibility in order to do any yoga. So I just finished yours. Interesting to me when you said to hold stretches for 2 mins. I also thought holding a stretch long allowed the body to release that muscle, but I did not ever think of going more than a minute. I could see a couple small improvements after holding each stretch so long. Thank you for saying breathe and relax so much. It helped me. I do think I will gain flexibility. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

I can’t thank you enough for this video. I’ve been interested in doing yoga for years now due to back and shoulder issues, but even the beginner classes and videos are too challenging for me. I really need to start at a remedial level and am ecstatic to have found you. I’m a piano instructor and we call pre-beginner music “primer level.” I’m happy to begin my yoga journey at a primer level, where I don’t feel as awkward and can build a solid foundation. So far I’ve done this routine 4 times and can already feel my muscles stretch and loosen. Thank you so so very much!

I LOVE THIS VIDEO. I am super inflexible. It was impossible to reach my toes while sitting down with one foot pointing to one side. And the first time i did this session it felt like i wricked my neck, it hurted so much. But now. Only three days later i'm one cm away from reaching my toes while sitting down. ONLY three days. This is magic and the best thing ive done. I will continuing do this every day and i know i will be able to reach my toes within one week. YOU ARE AWESOME. THANK YOU.

Thank You. Happy New Year. I used to do yoga daily before I was struck down with fibromyalgia thru my spine hips and feet. 6 months ago I started my new life style and went vegan. Within 2 months I was back to working 6 days a week at a computer desk. That itself was a huge accomplishment. But I'm still up to 10 hrs a day so I wanted to start yoga again. Your ham and hip stretches are everything. I'm onto day 2 of this video and I've already seen an improvement thanks to muscle memory. I have 35 kgs to lose to get healthy and this video is the beginning

I want to thank you so much for making this available. I used to be so athletic and flexible and now i am so not those two things. After being hospitalized a couple times combined with knee and elbow injuries i've sustained over the years, its so difficult to find a routine that i can do and especially hard to keep up with the speed at which a lot of routines go. This routing was challenging but doable. Again thank you, and once more thank you!!!!

I'm 23. I had very delayed motor development growing up, but average or accelerated mental development- which meant my peers abilities and the expectations around me were always far beyond what I was capable of. This lead to a bitter hatred of exercise and sports which only lead to further inflexibility. I'm trying to get to a somewhat "normal" level and i would love to have more like this available

I have really tight hamstrings and this is the first time i was able to bend better with a straight spine coz i used a coffee table and a chair as you instructed. Loved the class!!

Thank you Brett. I have just recently discovered this video for inflexible people, which is me big time! Genetically I was born with poor flexibility. I have been a very successful master athlete with age group world records to my name. I have always stretched after workouts but this obviously wasn't enough. I am how 77 yrs old and my hips and shoulders are very tight indeed. However, I don't think I will ever be able to progress off this video!! What I find the hardest exercises are the ones on the floor stretching out the hips. I can't get into the positions in order to do the exercises properly. However, I WILL persevere and HOPE that I will see some improvement. Each morning I start with a short Qi Kong class and do your video class later in the day. Any further advice from you would be greatly appreciated. My daughter recommended your videos to me, she follows your morning routine every morning.

Thank you for your video. I have been meaning to work on my flexibility for a while now, and this workout is helping me get started. I could handle the poses, great tips, and in feel an encouraging response in many muscle groups i.e. a bit of an ache, which always makes me feel I'm making progress. Brilliant.

I am a chronic patient of osteomyelitis, has gone through 17 surgeries on my legs in last 8 yrs. I lost great level of flexibility. I just tried 1 set of all. They do work. It's simply invaluable what you are sharing.

Ok, it is February 2019, and I have just tried your exercise. Challenging for me, but exciting too, as I have some sciatica problems..and two horses to ride. At 60 thinks tak longer to get longer, but will see how this works out for us!

First attempt this evening at yoga! I cant believe how inflexible I am and how difficult even this is! Been having a rough few months with pain issues,severe tendinitis in both wrists,hips feel so so tight in the morning,Also been told I have gout which is very painful and more aches here and there Im only 34 but have been always into full contact sport or endurance sports and always very lazy to stretch but I think ive found the answer here!! WOW im inflexible!!!!

Thank you so very much. I am very inflexible. Only a couple of items I had to improvise. Not in the greatest of shape either, but made it through this. The deep breathing I noted added so much. Will continue with this video for a while to come to gain flexibility. Again thank you. Lance

This was so helpful to me and my best friend. I am in decent shape but have horrid flexibility Other Yoga videos move way too fast, I get stuck in positions and they get so far ahead of me I get frustrated and quit. Thank you so much!! This was awesome! .

Im going too try this with my husband though he will not be able to do much of this video as he so inflexible, i have never come across someone as inflexible as he is....and have said he must do something otherwise he will suffer in old age! I'm a fitness professional and have never liked yoga...tried a class years ago and didn't like it, the people were so snobby! BUT have looked again this last year, have friends that have become yoga instructors, tried various online classes and I now love it...Im going to take your 200 hour certificate :)

Hello, I’m extreme stiff! And have horrible mobility, all Ive ever done is lift weights. My inflexibility is impacting me in my everyday life, I move like an old lady lol, correction, an old lady probably moves better lol. Today was my first day of doing yoga, although some of the moves on this video were still quite difficult and I had to modify, I really enjoyed the challenge. I’m looking forward to seeing progress in myself with the help of these videos ❤️

Thank you so much. I often, when doing the poses, feel tension on the inside of my thighs and up towards my groin- that is even though yoga instructors rarely mention that part of the body, but still its where I feel most discomfort. Namaste. :)

That motivates me to keep stretching for 15 minutes every day i hope I will get at least a bit more flexible with 105 minutes a week of stretching lol

This wasn't just amazing but much needed.. I definitely need a lot more of this in my life, as a athlete who has always had incredibly inflexible hips and hamstrings and trains hard in the gym.. as a naturally high strung guy, I can easily see that yoga just may be a void filler I've been NEEDING.. big thanks Brett, beautiful and well informative.. keep up the good guidance. 👌👍💪

I really enjoyed this video. I have been looking into yoga for a while now. My life has been very stressful this past year and I have let myself down and have gotten really out of shape and inflexible. I know a lot of people use yoga to relieve and find their inner self and even just doing a couple of your videos I am already feeling less tight and helping my breathing. I'm excited for this journey and I am super glad I found your videos, they are amazing. I believe they will be super helpful.

Perfect, I'm struggling with a pretty stiff body at the moment so this was great nothing too demanding. However I did have to get up and move to my laptop during the penultimate stretch 30 mins in as it went so quiet I thought the video had stopped for some reason, so intermittent talking or perhaps constant soft background music helps to ensure the user knows the video is still running. Overall this was great!

I started stretching a few months ago inconsistently because I was in pain due to stiffness. Till I found this womens channel I did NOT like yoga, I just tried videos and would quit and go back to my highschool wrestling strectches. Ive found myself very stiff and ego aside im doing beginner videos. Brett Larkins style made yoga mentally and physically tolerable for me to do it consistantly(she always has good modifications and encouragement ). I started a 30 minute minimum a day challenge for myself yesterday. If you're iffy on yoga or in a rut. I recommend exploring her channel. I do not believe I would challenge myself to be consistent if I did not like her channel so much. Good times.

This was great thanks! I still struggled to do everything you suggested but this has been the best beginners video I've seen so far. Besides the obvious hamstring inflexibility. I also really struggle with bending my hips and keeping my back long. I think in particular the back issue is due to me not being good at knowing what my body is doing and making it do more precice movements this also causes me not to be able to roll my shoulders back when doing the stretch with the table or wall.

My left hamstring is super inflexible, and when I was trying to point my left toes up, it was painful and I felt my foot going numb. What you said about holding the stretch for 2-5 minutes goes against what I’ve been told about stretching (30 seconds max). I think I should’ve done a warm up before this. Otherwise, I really enjoyed and needed this. Thank you!

Depends on when you are stretching. if you are doing yin style yoga, which works with the connective tissue and is great to help increase flexibility, you do it with cold muscles and hold for time. Stretching done after a workout is best held for shorter periods of time. Hope that helps clear that up a bit for you!

I’ve never done yoga and have terrible flexibility, this video tbh changed my perspective on yoga because this was so relaxing though painful I was able to somehow push though it and forget about the pain

thanks for this class, it is sooo good, doing it in the morning and my body is so much happier for the rest of the day. My lower back and shoulder pain are nearly gone. Also thanks for not including downward dog, which seems to be favorit pose in other inflexible people classes but is hard to do with aching shoulder

The stretches were great, but in my personal opinion though I felt as though there wasn't enough silence to relax, plenty of reiterating simple things about the using a coffee table or chair, etc. Overall, I loved that you incorporated something that helps those who are inflexible get into yoga without all the extremes, thank you. 😁

The chair stretches were tough for me because i have tight shoulder and pec muscles. I will try to do these stretches 3x a week and see where I am in a month.

Sorely needed after an 8 mile weighted ruck today. I fight tight hamstrings all the time and this was just what I needed. Even got the tough Army BoyFriend to join in :)

I cannot say enough how this session has helped me... from being completely inflexible to seeing massive improvement in less than two weeks... wow... what’s the next step or video you recommend after mastering this... I have flat feet, anterior pelvic tilt, and knee Valgus 😅😅😅
