Living Big In A Tiny House

Living Big In A Tiny House

Күн бұрын

Jayme is a yoga teacher who has built an amazing and beautiful tiny house which is designed to encourage body movement. While still being a stunning and functional home, this tiny house on wheels has lots of things to climb on and hang off, helping to support Jayme in her health and fitness goals.

This tiny house is furniture free. The furniture free movement encourages people to ditch their couches and sofa's and instead create open, functional and versatile spaces which encourage body movement. Without supporting furniture, the body is forced to find more ways to engage and relax. Ultimately, this helps to not only burn calories, but also to build strength and muscles.

This home was built from all reclaimed / salvaged materials which have come together beautifully in this tiny house. Amazingly, Jayme was able to construct this beautiful home for the unbelievable price of only $12,000, thanks to her resourcefulness and willingness to get stuck in and tackle the tiny house build herself.

I work with a man who had a stroke leaving parts of his left side paralyzed. He has had a recumbent trike fitted with all the gearing etc on his unaffected side. We go for rides, and sometimes hikes. After I started with him we hiked to the top of a park near his house and it was his first time in 5 years! I recognize that I take for granted things that my friend considers a massive struggle. But I also see that his biggest obstacle is often his own fear. Balance and coordination are hugely affected. But when I gave him the confidence and support to try, he accomplished things he stopped wishing for. Maybe those feelings shouldn't be ignored? Maybe find someone patient, strong and knowledgeable to help you do what you are capable and expand on that.

dharmapunk777 That’s so wonderful! I wish I could find someone to help me like that but I’m my experience, people would rather tell you they will pray for you than spend time with you, let alone go out of their way to help you fulfill a dream. I am scared to walk through a store alone because I faint. I use the scooter which helps me most of the time but I’ve had to learn to do everything on my own or not do it at all. Unfortunately hiking will never be safe enough for me to go alone and I may never be able to do it without some sort of chair. I used to hike a lot. It’s my dream to do it again. And I’d love to go to Italy and Greece but they aren’t very accessible. Maybe one day. Keep on making dreams come true. If Karma is a thing, you are in for a great life!

R J I live in the Midwest. And I’ve lived in two different mid western states and traveled to several others. People from that region of the country come from certain parts of Europe where women are built like that. They have big squarish bodies, and as they get to be elderly a lot of times the women tend to end up looking more and more like men. When she said she was from Missouri, which is a Midwestern State, I recognized that she was just typical of the females from that part of the country. When she said she had an affinity for the Native American tradition, it occurred to me that she might be part Native American. There are quite a few native American reservations in the Midwest, and Caucasian people from those states often have some Native American genes. People who have very limited contact with others who are not of their ethnicity often make errors in judgment because they have a very small sampling from which they can compare other people to what they are used to seeing. . Don’t be so quick to judge. To me, she just looks like a typical mid western woman who is possibly part N. A. AND she’s an athletic trainer as well as a yoga teacher. So she has built up her musculature. This is a beautiful soul who shared her creativity and her peace with us. Everyone who posted here -except YOU- could appreciate her. Travel around more, and then YOU can open YOUR eyes and recognize the magnificence of the many examples there are of the CREATOR’S infinite varieties among that which is created. Not all women are small and dainty, and not all men are big and strong. There is an infinite spectrum of diversity. among humankind, And IT’S ALL GOOD. PEACE 🙏

Well I don't know. It has a main section with a concrete foundation all the way around that is 3 ft tall and 6" thick plus river rock on three sides. The main roof is metal and 9/12 pitch with an 8 ft loft that is tall enough in the middle to stand up in for a 6 ft. person. We did the lofted walls in Hardi panel cedar mill type to match the outside also in the same material. The end wall will be in the weathered dark wood. There is a kitchen on the left of the entry way that you walk two steps down into the concrete floor and wall areas. I was able to recycle a nice stainless sink but did go to HD for the cabinet for the double sink and a 2 ft wide hickory look 3 drawer cabinet. Went with an 8 ft. wide HD laminate top under which will also be a dorm fridge and room to sit. Next to that we put in a full sized wood stove with 6" stainless steel double wall insulated pipe up through the loft area and out the metal roof. Also added 4" combustion air from outside wall going under the wood stove to assure adequate air when burning with such a big stove. Plan to use the stove for cooking. Added water from the well and also piping to and from the nearby someday to be bath/shower/laundry area. On either side of the main building there is covered areas 8 ft wide with a 3/12 roof pitch and weathered wood 30 year architectural roofing. Views of the river from many spots. Electrical with panel to many spots with exterior lighting on 3 sides. The front area also has a covered area 8 ft. wide. We did shingle type hardi on the eaves in the same material and colors as the "main house" nearby. Now we are at stage of adding the weathered wood walls as it has been well insulated throughout. We call it "the chapel".

This is really beautiful. My family doesn't live in a tiny house, we're in a small house in a city, but we got rid of all chairs/sofa ten years ago. Being able to stay mobile and able to get up and down off the floor is so important as my husband and I are getting older. I can still sit in a full squat to the floor with my youngest as we play and I see so many friends are losing that mobility.

It is not exactly furniture free as the title says but that is a small matter. When Jayme says that each thing in that small space is loved, is wonderful. She also managed to reuse so much stuff from other demolition and waste. I also liked the way she said that the whole thing was about the 'process' not the product and that she learnt from the exercise- good and bad. The small house also enables everyone to share the open space equitably. If we all lived such low impact and creative lives, perhaps it would end homelessness.

I think Jayme has quite a story to tell beyond her tiny house. The effort and hard work and ingenuity that has gone into building that home is understated. It's not easy to dismantle a barn and reclaim the boards AND build a house with them by yourself while keeping the character of the materials intact. Truly impressive. Love the wonder window.

It looks like a lovely artistic old shed. I LOVE the minimum furniture and open space. I live in a 600 sq ft highrise apartment with only a futon on the floor and meditation cushions for guests. It is ao beautiful and roomy. At age 60 now, I am still more agile than people half my age because, when I am home, I may get up and down from the floor a hundred times a day, which keeps my knees, hips, legs, and body strong. Her use of reclaimed pieces takes "reuse, recycle" to a high level! She is no ordinary woman. It takes one to recognize one!

Bryce, your channel is one of my absolute favorites! We get to meet incredible people who share amazing stories. All different. All unique! I've never seen Patreon structured as yours is. So many are focused on amounts. Some channels content is absolutely horrible yet they have tiers that are quite high. Not even worth the lowest tier! I was shocked when I went to yours. You make it extremely affordable. It's VERY clear you love what you do! It shows in the quality, content of every video you uploaded. Your channel takes us to places we'd otherwise never go, or see. You take us on journey's all over the world. We hear the stories, adventures, that lead the person, people you're so skillfully interviewing, to where they are now! All this, while we are sitting in the comfort of our own home! If you enjoy this channel as much as I do, and are financially able to do so, please consider subscribing to Bryce's Patreon! It would be wonderful to help him reach his goal! Thank you!

I'm not sure if you're still in America, but there's a converted church in Kansas City called Thieves of Flight that would make for an interesting story. The upstairs balcony was turned into the owner's home, the church alter converted into a kitchen and the main seating area of the church is an aerial silks/yoga/dance studio. It's in an epic part of an old downtown area of KC. Completely unsuspecting. Been loving your videos lately!

The beautiful way you’ve shown how she’s incorporated thoughtful gathering and creating a home that encourages natural and vital movement instead of stasis and insulation from life... the way she’s structured her life to invite it in rather than hide from it. It’s multilayered, nuanced, and deeply inspiring. Life changing potential here. Thank you!!!!

May her tribe increase! If only people realized that we need only so much! Most people live their whole lives working 9 to 5, only to buy things they don't even need to impress people they don't like. Dear people, spend less, save more, retire early. Do not try to impress people. Nobody will come over to pay your EMIs. People might appreciate your car, house, or the attire when they see it the first time, but nobody gives an eff ten seconds later. Stop trying to impress people, and your life will be a lot simpler.

This was quite interesting as I thought the house was amazing, but also that the owner really incorporated who she is in the home. I also learned that I never really thought of my home as a place of movement. She/Jayme put so much thought into health, stretching, exercising but not an "in your face way." Everything looks so serene but also has the hidden structures where you can literally "hang out," which I have never seen before in a home. Cool!

This home really holds true to the minimalistic style that I feel that living tiny is all about.
