gamepads in an FPS game is just pure AIDS, who can possibly play like that? it's one of many reasons gaming consoles never appealed to me, sure gamepads work just fine for driving games and other titles, but they are not designed for fine aiming that is required in any shooter.

Nah, Xeon e5440 is life. 3.8 GHz @ ~1.25 Vcore. Didn't wanna push it further (I had plenty of voltage headroom left - 1.3625 is the max I think) because of my ram (1 stick isn't really meant for overclocking). I am planning on pushing it past 4 GHz after I get better ram sticks.

I had some parts to slap a PC together that were mostly from an old tower I built. All I needed was a S775 motherboard, and new optical drive. I picked up a P5Q3, P45, DDR3 x 4 motherboard. Because I run 2 x SATA 2 WD 1TB Enterprise storage drives in RAID0, the ICH10 Southbridge should do nicely. Processor is a Q9650 with Noctua NH-U14S heatsink including Noctua's S775 bracket kit I had to send away for. RAM is G-Skill 1600Mhz DDR3. I hope to get a comfortable cruising overclock of 4Ghz, this will stretch the last obsolete life out of it, and if it were a good ol' Q6600, I still would have gone ahead with it due to viability. I still run Win7 to this day, and will never go beyond that unless MS behaves themselves instead of playing data gods, and churning out OSes that savvy PC owners don't want. I've known others with Q6600 CPUs, and they have all been happy with their OC'ed performance. Whilst 65, and 45nm CPUs had ceiling limitations in overclocking, chewed more power, and generated a little more difficult to manage heat than modern CPUs. They were however quite reliable. Many of these CPUs becoming land fill before they croaked it, and now there is few S775 worthy motherboards out there except Chinese refurbished (yeah right...) I still love my Q9650, I have not OC'd it till now, and hope it will kick for a few years more at full throttle with this new Noctua.

I'm happy to see there's still life left in these old q6600/q6700 workhorse cpus. Alas they are showing their age. But still fun to play with. In late 2009 I'd had a great q6600 O/C 3 ghz gaming rig. Antec Mid-tower black Case, 750 watt Enermex PS, Quiet fans, 8 GB 800 DDR2 RAM,Asus motherboard (can't remember model but it was crossfire capable) 2x500 GB Seagate Barrcuda HD's Raid 0 (SSD's were not an option at the time), DVDRW, Build in audio, 2x ATI/AMD 4870 video cards in crossfire mode, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. It was top of the line gaming rig for it's time. Had I kept it, I would love to upgrade to 2x SSD's, add a USB 3.0 PCI-E 1x expansion card, upgrade 2x video cards in crossfire mode, Install windows 10 pro 64 bit. The best part about the LGA 775 socket is that the q6600 isn't the fastest quad core it can take, since you can go up to the even faster 3.33 GHz x5470, then overclock the xeon x5470 to 4 GHz on air cooling!!! The x5470 can even match the newer i5-2500 for a fraction of the price that the 2500 goes for, absolutely legendary performance is possible with lga 775!!!

I have the same Q6600 G0 stepping great OC'er. Ran it for 6 years no problems. For the fun of it I picked up a Q9550 E0 stepping ($25.00) and swapped it with the Q6600 that was OC'd to 2.8ghz. The stock Q9550 still beat the oc'd Q6600 by 10-25% which kind of suprised me. The only thing that bothers me with the Q9550 is it runs a bit hotter than the older Q6600. I use the same ASUS P5Q MB/ P45 chipset and H50 Corsair WC. Weird...
@trajanaugustus87838 жыл бұрын
It is a P5Q no L or pro. I am starting to think my temp sensors on the MB may be out of wack as I have OC'd the Q9550 and the temps only went up 1 or 2 C. Core zero is always at 38C, never drops. Core 1-3 stay around 29-33C. The CPU overall temp is anywhere from 19C-33C so I guess it is pretty good.

I'm still using a Q6600 from a PC I got in 2009, upgraded the 1GB HD 4870 to a 2GB HD 7870 and added a 2nd internal hard drive. Works with every game I've tried so far, including ones it doesn't meet the minimum specifications for. The only game I had a problem with was RE 7 and the demo, but they both got patched, Apparently Quantum Break needs SSE4.2 support though, so I guess that wouldn't work. Same P5Q motherboard too, no pro, no L, no deluxe, JUST P5Q. The Q6600 is currently overclocked to 3.0GHZ on air.

I had one until 2013, it served me well for 6 years. I've had an Ivy Bridge i5 for the past 5 years, and I think this chip will last me even longer than the Q6600 did. It's still a huge upgrade if you have a lga775 pc with a dual core, but if you're building something from scratch, Ivy Bridge i5 CPUs like mine can be found for around $40, and will smoke the Q6600.

I still use the Q6600 processor today. I'm not a gamer and with the big cache I'm more than happy with the performance, even at stock 2.4 Ghz speeds. Paired with an old ATI 4830 that came with the computer, the Gateway with the Q6600 and 8GB of Ddr2 (that came with the computer) still happily chugs along without a hiccup. Computer was only $20.00 and just needed a cpu upgrade from an E2160.

The Q6600 is still quite capable for 90% of what people do on a computer and can usually be bought now for around $8.00. The 8 MB cache is huge and with a simple tape hack the Q6600 can easily run at very respectable 3.0 Ghz with no overclocking at all. Still an extremely great chip for everyday use even in 2019.

I'm getting ready to try the same thing on my MSI Gaming X GTX 1060. Wish me luck... I might need some help/advice on the dremmeling part. I also have two different LGA 775 builds and have found about the same results with my Q6600 (albeit using the 1060). Just wanted to quickly mention that if you're looking to water cool an LGA 775 build finding one of the AIO's that has compatible mounting hardware its not easy to find. I purchased a Silverstone TD-02 lite for my build(s) and it has worked great. Also - I'm gonna be doing a video soon comparing some LGA 775 core2 quads (Q6600, Q8400, Q9550) against Xeon LGA771 chips (x5450, x5460, x5470). The mod was REALLY easy to do. Exactly I think it has a lot of to do with AMD being pretty much out of the CPu game for the last 6 years or so, I;m so glad it;s chaning now. Just look what intel tried to pass out as a CPu recently - an intel i3-7350k a 2 core 4 thread CPU at the same price as AMD ryzen 5 1600. This is insane. If not for a fact AMD wasn;t a real competition for intel for such a long period of time we would be all running 8 core or better CPUs by now

The chip is easy to overclock but produces a lot of heat. I'm still running a simialr Q9400 which is also easy to overclock but doesn't make quite as much heat. Mine runs fine at 3.8GHz. At 3.8GHz I think it is getting closer to the processors recommended today for budget builds. Not having USB3 is a problem, running an old spinning hard drive is a big problem.

Have you ever seen in a movie, when someone has a flashback doing the same thing over and over again. You know, the focal point of the movie. Yup, I just realized, Ive been writing Zeon and searching Xeon for about 2 years now.

I'm still quite happy with the following mid range oriented late '00s system, even today in 2017, with some modern optional extras: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.0GHz (Wolfdale, E0 Stepping) (7 quid off eBay in January 2016) Gigabyte EP35-DS3R (brought retail for a subsequently aborted build, been sitting on the shelf unused from 2008, finally installed 2016) 8GB (4x2GB) G.Skill DDR2 1000 5-5-5-15 2T @ 2.0v 2GB EVGA 750 Ti SC graphics SoundBlaster Audigy SB0900 PCI audio card Be Quiet! Shadow Rock LP 130W TDP cooler (With Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste used) 128GB & 256GB SanDisk X400 SSDs (For XP & 8.1 respectively, in a dual boot configuration) 1TB & 2TB Western Digital Black HDDs (for game & miscellaneous data drives respectively) EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2 fully modular PSU Cooler Master Elite 370 case Scythe Kaze Master KM01-BK case fan controller 120mm & 140mm Xigmatek blue LED case fans Two Lite-On DVD writer optical drives (black) (for Region 1 & 2 DVD playback) Sony 3.5" 1.44MB floppy drive (black) So for me, all of the above (along with a 32GB 4790K, 4GB 960 SLI system) means: Q6600? :-P

I got a Q9650 since then. Q6600? Still :-P !

would you consider doing further generations of the Core 2 Quad ? q6600 is the oldest, and maybe not the best ! what do you think ?

Q6600 at 3.3-3.4Ghz = Q9650/Xeon E5450 at 3.0Ghz

Juan Massiosare are you telling me I just bought a damn fucking slightly better q6600 for 40 dollars ? (X5460)
@itsneight12608 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about a E5450 but my Q6600 machine OC'd at 3.6Ghz is not even close to as fast as my X5460 at stock speeds much less OC'd to 4.0Ghz. The Xeon 5460 is MUCH faster.

I am running a q6600 out of a desktop optiplex 755 with a gtx750ti. It runs exceptionally well for such a frankenstein setup. The dell is only sized for half height cards but I modded the side panel. I got my gtx 1050ti in the mail😁. I imagine I will start to bottleneck with this setup but asides from that I believe the 750ti and the q6600 are a very great value pair. My total build cost was less than $130, DDR2 and the card was a big chunk of that.

i replaced both of my q6600 chips in my 2 towers with the q9550 chips. major difference in performance. still have them in a box. they were good though

I have Q6600 too with AMD 5770 on crossfire and runs all modern games on high without problems. :) Emazing cpu for that age of cpu. :) It has more power than i3 second generation or pentium on skylake. :) Emazing cpu for 10 dolars in my country. :)

the q6600 is a fucking beast for the price, unfortunately sse 4.1 support doesnt allow me to play some games but i bet my ass it could run them on 25-30 fps at least!

I bought a dell optiplex that doesn't natively support oc, but i have a q6600 coming and i plan to use the bsel method to overclock. I bought the dell for $20 and the cpu for $14. I plan on using it for emulation.

This is why you want P41, you get access to DDR3 RAM.
