Caste identities are an unfortunate reality in our society and everytime a Savarna CM such as Brahmin, Rajput, Bhumihar has been a CM , he has attracted the charge of patronising his castemen. Similarly a dominant OBC caste such as Yadav, Kurmi, Koeri attracts the same charge or will when they sit in the chair. Even a dalit attracts the same attention. So I guess, we will have to live through this.

The BJP top leadership has queered the pitch for YOGI JI in the forthcoming by polls in the State. Open indiscipline while being a member of the cabinet goes against the ethos of collective leadership . Ideally the ministers should quit the cabinet and feel freer to criticise the state government. In such a situation losses are to be expected in the by polls. Laying the blame at Yogi jis door will not be fair. However, everything goes in politics.

The calculations of BJP , in adding EBCs, to the party is neither consistent nor seems wise. Like, for instance Shivraj Singh Chauhan who belongs to an EBC caste and scored a very impressive victory at the hustings was removed as CM. So it is more about preventing local satraps striking roots in the States.

He hasn't been patronising them as such and is seen as a Hindu leader who has on record claimed that the welfare schemes of the government reaches the minority as well. Is it possible for the Thakurs to hide behind somebody or walk into the sea !

This is fraught with danger as Yogi Adityanath ji has come to personify the emergent Hindu spirit. The party will therefore pay a very heavy price. The choice is theirs to make.
