Great details Brian. Subscriber here.. Recently i`ve start using the ”Yoko” hook as a means of elevating that leg and switching (leg) to a regular sumi or ashi entrance. Sometimes a lifesaver against leg-smashers.

If you can get your center of mass underneath, but it’s more difficult with the bottom leg entangled 👍🏼

Wrong! I dont think Craig Jones taught him this - perfected it, yes definitely. But I did a 5 month program with Eugene Bareman last year and he taught us this technique. We never perfected it but certainly its in his arsenal. So I imagine Volk probably knew this for a long time and simply focussed on it during this camp

This is great! Does it also work from half guard when top person is attempting the leg lace?
@bzglick3 жыл бұрын
It’s harder when your bottom leg is entangled - you need it drive with 👍🏼

How can you use this against someone with one knee down and one leg up? what would the setup be?
@bzglick3 жыл бұрын
If the far leg is up you can still hook it
@jits_10133 жыл бұрын
say im playing a butterfly guard, would it be feasible to use the reverse kimura grip to nullify the basing arm, then hit this sweep. Unless the armpit over back grip is absolutely essential in which case i could attempt to make a quick grip change and then hit the sweep, as id still have a wrist control grip pushing my opponents basing had into their stomach
@bzglick3 жыл бұрын
You need the lat grip to pull…but you can try it and see what happens

I love this technique but it’s so bad on the knees!
@nooneatall56123 жыл бұрын
Dude I've seen danaher perform this and he has 1 knee and personally I've never had issues with my knees performing it, are you sure you are applying it right?
@adrianboucek3 жыл бұрын
@@nooneatall5612 I’ve had meniscus surgeries on both knees so I have to be extra careful from bottom position. Yoko Sumi Gaeshi and Kani Basami can put some extra stress on the knee, but theyre still great moves I love to use. To your point, just got to make sure it’s being executed perfectly.
@nooneatall56123 жыл бұрын
Greatly appreciated! My opponents often do this garbage guard pass and stall so nothing happens for a while this is an interesting way to counter it. Also, what do you think about the head position of our head below his rather than over the top? My conjecture is that it seems stronger if you get it but a nightmare to get it.
@bzglick3 жыл бұрын
Haha - great. It’s tough to get the overback grip with your head below his head…
