Considering how many injuries he had and still has to contend with, it's just staggering. I have more admiration for someone like Terunofuji who had to work so hard to accomplish what he has. His body is failing him more and more, but I do hope he wins his 10th title before he retires.

Congratulations to Terunofuji for his 10th Yusho. A well deserved victory !

Terunofuji used a hazu-oshi approach with most of his opponents. He then would maneuver for a belt grip if necessary.

4:42 a little kick to the leg, I know kicking is prohibited, I am new to sumo, is that a considered a dirty play? At the end of the fight, Terunofuji glared at him, did the kick have anything to do with the extra long look?
@PetRockification10 ай бұрын
Yes, noticed this too kicking is prohibited but sweeping is allowed. I suppose it could be foul play if it was intended to target an injury
@nombregenerico88798 ай бұрын
Kicking is prohibited the same way that you need to put the two hands down before the tachi-ai, it depends on when it's enforced. Sumo can be very dynamic, and therefore, determining when a leg movement is a swipe or not can be tricky in some guards or some determined moments. What you cannot do and nobody will attempt is kicking above the knee. Tobizaru surely tried to take advantage of Teru's frail knees (not a gentle thing to do, but not strange to sumo historically), and that's definitely why he got so angry during the bout and explains the stare at the end. Fair game or not, a Yokozuna expects a certain deference from his opponents and they'll want to assert dominance so future rivals will think twice before targeting his weak spots again.

You noticed it too... I think that was why he glared at him
@Leeonrf6 ай бұрын
Tobizaru slaped Teru's face in the tachi ai. I believe its more the slap than the leg move that caused the long stare, cause it was only a failed sweep, a very unskillfull attempt, but leg sweeps are fair game in sumo

Hakkeyoi at the starting charge, which roughly means "put some spirit into it!", and Nokkata when the bout is ongoing which is basically them telling the wrestlers that they're still in the ring and the match is still on

kotonowaka name become kotozakura?
@full15sumo4 ай бұрын
His grandfather was the 53rd Yokozuna and the original Kotozakura, who he changed his shikona to honor once he reached Ozeki. His father was Sekiwake Kotonowaka who he actually kept the name of for a basho after making Ozeki, as per his father's request. Very impressive sumo pedigree, another Yokozuna Kotozakura perhaps? We can only hope...
