It is so beautiful because it's shape comes from God, the engineers used science to find that most optimal shape, test it, and so here it is. It is truly a shame that stealth is more important than aerodynamics, we will not see another fighter jet this beautiful ever again I think. There is just something special about a high power supersonic aircraft's operation that makes such a beautiful shape

Not only is flanker D one of the meanest looking sleekest jets it is really crazy how maneuverable it is and if the Russian navy ever decide to make catapult launch aircraft carriers the capabilities of the flanker would double.

I’ve flown the su-33 in dcs and it is fun, but after you take off of the carrier you have to put a lot of negative trim on, the canards on the front make the plane have a tendency to pitch up a lot, and it’s rather annoying. It’s a fun plane to mess around with.

I'm not sure how accurate DCS is to real life, but wanted to ask if you go to full afterburner when landing, like they do on U.S. carriers. From the video, it appears that they don't. What happens if they miss the arrestor cable and fall off the ship ? I'd live to get into DCS someday. The graphics are amazing !

@@O-cDxA I don’t really know what Russian procedure is for that. But you always go to at least mil power(max power without after burners) or even full after burners. That way you if you miss a wire, you’ll have enough speed to climb up at a decent rate.

Новый авианосец России никогда уже не построить. Тем более поддержание в боеспособном состоянии авианосной группы не по карману. Тем более для них нет военных задач. Россия сухопутная держава и любой военный конфликт будет решаться на земле. Увлечение флотом в современной России и так вылилось в катастрофическое положение с сухопутными вооружениями.

Very nice video, I've always loved how majestic these planes look. But I couldn't help but notice how big Sukhoi Su-33 are compared to naval F/A 18s but yet they do not use catapults to launch their planes instead use a ramp, are their advantages or disadvantages to using ramp vs catapults?

From what I’ve gathered ramps are much cheaper and less complex but limited the range and weapons load of the aircraft that use them. Catapults on the other hand allows for the fullest potential of the aircraft to be used but are more expensive and complex and probably also strain the aircraft more leading to shorter lifespans and higher maintenance

That's why a lot of people say that it would have made more sense to use the MiG-29 for the carrier duty, especially, if not through the whole service. It is plenty capable and much smaller and cheaper. I feel like the Russians were drunk on the pride in their own creation. They liked the applause the weekend have them for the Su-27 and so determined to use it whatever the cost, for the status basically. It hurts pride to admit you can't afford something. Then again that has been exactly the US approach for decades, "always go with the best money can buy, don't scrimp on the warriors". And the US can't afford it either, we just borrow more money every year.
