We had to write poems in Iambic Pentameter for class when we were studying Shakespeare, and here's what I came up with. I used this beat and wrote this thing all night a couple months ago. (For those of you who don't know, Iambic Pentameter is a specific type of rhythmic scheme used in poetic language whose syllables are stressed on and off and there are 10 syllables per line. Every two syllables creates what's called an Iamb, and since there are 10 syllables in a line, that results in five iambs, hence the name Iambic Pentameter.) I wrote this for a girl I met in the summer and I fell in love with her but I gave her no reason to love me. I was just lost and shit and she was of such beauty and human grace that I gave her my heart when I didn't know what to do with it as I felt nothing in my life except for pain before I met her. I know I'm not supposed to love you. I try to tell myself that I don't. Anyways, here's Rain: I take a look outside and feel the rain the pain the strain the day refrains and I refrain, no, verse, I first rehearsed this verse I’m getting worse this curse I put myself inside this cell of self hate suffer I just suffer but for now I bow to the idea of negativity and I’m stuck, give up, I say, today will just refrain this curse is getting worse…but her? She’s…Beauty. Eyes behold what Heaven molds with hands of honing and perfection see her hair, her skin complexion, mention, too, her smile. That charming, darling smile that I’ll remember for a while. I love her smile. I show her what I’m made of; nothing she’s afraid of, she embraces what I am I can’t explain what that is like to be a monster, then be liked. And then, one night, I say “We’re strangers, yes, but I’m so blessed to know you - much or little as I do - ‘cause I look in your eyes and see you and Might be in Love with you. Yes, I’m in Love with You, Rain. Then she smiles, I melt, she knows I need her Love, but what’s the Love she felt? I sit beside her every bit of me is hers is mine is ours but fine why pine sometimes, well, I’m just self destructive but let go who knows she knows she goes and oh it’s raining.
