God knows how Ginting somehow managed to win that. He made so many mistakes especially in the final game. Unforced error after unforced error and then nearly bottled it from a big lead as well.

Ginting had indeed bottled that match. He was lucky that Axelson distracted himself arguing with the ref. Axelsen on the other hand should have taken that call in stride and played on. Score was still 19-18. Anybodys game.

If you play frame per frame starting at 1:16:07 (pause the video and use the period/comma to go to the next/previous frame) you can see that the shuttle is basically right above the net when Ginting touches it, so it's a good shot in that respect, but he hits the net in the follow-through. It can't be the shuttle hitting the net, because the shuttle is clearly still a couple inches/centimeters above the net when he hits it and is already well on Axelsen's side when the net starts to move. In the second camera angle at 1:16:17 it looks like the shuttle is deflected by the net, but from the first angle we know that's not the case. It's probably because of slice on the shuttle making it tumble. Same for the argument of the shuttle crossing the net: In the second angle it looks like the shuttle clearly crossed the net, but that's just because of the perspective...

Yeah his racket did touch the net, cuz the ball is like 3 centi up the last frame, it couldn't have touched the net, then the net movement must come from the racket badmin rules must amend for a challenge like such, I dunno why line judge and service judges are still present when other sports like tennis had already been using hawk's ai systems

I believe the intention was for the game (1st) and not the match. That's why he used the word game and not match, while referring to one sided match. Since, ginting chose the wrong sides for 1st game.

Even if Ginting actually did make a legal netkill (if any part of the shuttle is across the net then it is legal to hit), his racquet hits the net on his followthrough before the shuttle hits the ground.

I replayed it 0.25x and you can see the shuttle went over just the tip of it. I also don’t see the racquet hitting the net on his followthrough, I’ve already in 0.25x speed and simultaneously pause and unpause it but still don’t see it. Either way I know it’s 18 all but Axelsen is too emotional for that, there are still many chances and it’s a shame that he loses his head there. A great match really tbh worthy of a final.

It's quite clear that the racquet hit the net at 1/4 speed. The shuttle is nowhere near the net. Can't blame umpires, though. Great match from both.

At 1:16:08 you can see that the shuttle is not on Victors side when Ginting hits it, but Ginting touches the net witch you can see both at the first timestamp, where you can see the net move and here 1:16:16 where it is more clear that it his racket that touches the net. Video must be run by 0,25x speed.

Ginting's racket grazed the net. (You can go frame by frame on YT using keys). It was not the shuttle. But I don't blame the umpire, it was very subtle and he was right that the shuttle was directly over the net the moment it was struck. This is one of the closest calls I've ever seen.

Was a clear fault - the irony is that Axelsen's shot would likely not have gotten over the net from the trajectory in the slow motion so Ginting should not have taken it. Still, he is right. The rules are the rules and this empire was just too afraid to call it.

If you watch 0.25x there is no way it was over the net. Even if a part of a feather was at the middle line, there is no way it crossed, nor could one argue that the shuttle crossed as in any other scenario it’s the cork end, that definitely never made it past the net.

I don't get why people are arguing, this was top entertainment and no mistake from umpire. People are watching at 0.25 speed and still have opposing views, how could the umpire do any better? Hawkeye for netplay would be the only real solution. And Axelsen supposedly being unsportsmanlike, like wtf? Guy is world No1 and really competitive, still shows respect to Ginting, what else is there? Ofc he's gutted, he wants to win tournaments. And from what I've seen, Axelsen and Ginting have always had major respect for each other. Perhaps this is a cultural thing, Asians don't seem to like players that show emotion so much.

Conversely, Viktor's face is marked by anger and frustration in such situations. Unlike Viktor, Momota doesn't exhibit the poor behaviour of leaving the court without waiting for his opponent and the umpire.

I have checked and based on my eyesight, the ball is just about tilted to ginting's side and if one complains that ginting's racket touch the net, the net didn't vibrate at all. Axelsen's reactions both after the point and after the game is over has shown unsupportive reaction towards Ginting. In the game, things happened. You can choose to blame or to pick up yourself and move on. Kudos to Ginting

@@ologunafolb898 Even with zoom and 0.25 speed, the only thing I see being close to the net (not necessarily touching it) is a blurry image. Right after such a blur, you can see his racket well above the net. He could not have hit the net during that blur since it was a brush kill. In addition, If you look closely at the net, it never moved. Try hitting the net with a racket, I guarantee you the net will move at least a little bit.

Indonesian ppl will think as it wasn't foul, but i think it was..! The shuttle was on viktor's side, i knw umpire is also a human so for such cases, he should have or rather player should be able to review it and then only come to conclusions.
