Sakuramoto is a hidden gem in Japanese WD team. Her skills are so solid. Her performance is so consistent. She looks like she is able to control every shot well even under high pressure. She seldom makes errors. Her shots varies, accurate and difficult for her opponent to respond. I’ve never seen such a well balanced player in WD. Hope she could really shine in the near future.

Agree completely. Her career also shows how important in doubles to get the right partner. She was unlucky so far. I think all things considered, Fukushima is the best doubles player Japan has now, Sakuramoto comes a close second.

Spot on. I was so impressed with how she played in this tournament. I never really paid attention to her before. I hope she will shine more with Arisa.

Japan has been quietly forging a truly formidable group of women's doubles pairs. They could again be entering a golden era in this discipline. Even more interesting is that these pairs all play quite differently and that should give them the means for at least one pair of their pairs to potentially go far in every tournament event.

Yeah, but please note that Chiharu (aged 27) is the youngest of them. China, on the other hand, has two pairs of girls under age of 23.

@@furtdrven2512 Age doesn't matter a iot in WD event. The Chinese pair who won the last Olympic were not young at all. (I don't know how old they are but they are veterans).

I cannot express how glad I am for those girls, both of them. Ayako is a great player and didn't have much luck with her partners. Her career is again very much alive because of partnership with Arisa. And Arisa herself can shine again now without army of brainless Yuta fans breathing down her neck blaming her for every defeat they endure. I'm just a bit sad for beautiful Maya. She will now face what Arisa had to face before. But that's another story.

Miyaura and Sakuramoto were a great pair but Arisa is just better, it’s not really luck related.

And you are saying that Watanabe was the weakness in their pairing? Arisa's style was meant to play women's doubles anyways. She was not fit as a mixed player.

@@Detroit158 "And you are saying that Watanabe was the weakness in their pairing?" Where did I say or even insinuated such thing? "She was not fit as a mixed player." Nonsense.

@@Detroit158 Arisa was not consistent and the defense was weak compared to the top pairs she was competing with last 5 years. Chae, Taerattanachai, Jeun Na Eun and Wei Yaxin all surpassed her as a mixed doubles female player.

just because her playing style isn't like the typical mixed doubles female player, it doesn't mean that she does not fit in mixed doubles. watanabe also not a typical hard-hitter male player. any comments on that?
