I'd like to point out one thing that happened during 2019 that shouldn't be overlooked and that's *all* the indie dev's that took Epic's cash and decided to screw over thier kickstarter/backers. Not just Shenmue 3 but Phoenix Point, OOBLETS and all the other indies that went Epic store exclusive in 2019 after reaching their target goals. Treating Kickstarters/Backers like their money only exists to get you're idea off the ground 'is some f*cked-up corporate mentality right there. You simply don't ditch the people that got you to where you are... Especially if they are in fact you're targeted audience 'cause you definitely don't want what happened to the dev's of OOBLETS to happen to you lol. What ? RDR2's online doesn't count because it wasn't made good until 2019, no remakes do not count because all you're doing is updating graphics. It's over glorified patching. VR releases also don't count because the only people who buy in to it are people who have a career on KZbin or more money than sense. That said... I won't deny there were good games released in 2018. However there was also a deluge of horrible games that were so awful or forgettable I've apparently repressed the memory. However a few jump out at me like... -yet another call of duty loaded with micro transactions -Fallout 76 and that never ending dumpster fire that is apparently still a raging inferno to this day -The Walking Dead telltale finale -Metro Exodus ( both the game going bland open world and Epic's bungling of its release ) -Battlefield V launching with a ton of missing features -Kingdom Hearts ( I consider any game where I have to do hours of research just to understand wtf is going on to be poorly done ) -Dynasty Warriors 9 -Far Cry 5 being yet another forgettable Ubisoft open world sandbox

There is one thing that never stop growing each passing years....and that is GREED. Most companies are getting greedier and anti-consumers each passing years.

Couple of things: 1. Monetization. I hope that each and every one of those "recurring user spending" models gets reviewed around the world and hopefully at least age restricted within next few years. Introducing infinite payments for children with no possible income of their own is inherently predatory. It's not just gambling, any monetization system that has no upper limit is inherently designed for those "my child/cousin/spouse spent 15k dollars for card packs" situation. I know it's not going to happen to extent that I wish but any moves against them are positive. Anthem, F76 and other live services aka dollar store MMORPGs as far as I've concerned: I've seen only 1 MMORPG turning things around completely and that's Final Fantasy 14. You know what it required? Admitting the mistakes instantly and spending next couple of years rebuilding the game from ground up. If Bethesda and Bioware had spent 2019 doing that they could have functional and more easily monetizable game by 2020 or 2021 but instead they've just applied tape and bubble gum to every leaking hole instead of just doing that complete overhaul for the whole house. And now it's too late because if they have both couple of horrible years behind them and couple of uneventful ones ahead of them, that's simply too long of a unsuatainable period. It sucks but they should just pull the plug and at least partially refund their awful games. It's still expensive and painful solution but that would at least give them chance to start fresh instead of spending crapton of resources on what's practically life support at this point
