EDIT 2: A correction. For 18:58, turns out Peter did make it a gender issue and diss the Guild Wars 2 community (archive.is/CQ5BB). However, Jessica still overreached with her interpretation of his tweet. YongYea personally I despise right-wing trolls racist sexist and the like. Perhaps Jessica Price should look in the mirror because she just became the mirror image of a right-wing troll just left-wing. Instead of attacking women minorities and gay people like right wing trolls do, she just attacks straight white men especially if they have an opinion that differs from hers apparently. I read all the tweets the only one being an asshole and being sexist was Jessica Price.

“He had the power to command a woman”.. This statement alone is completely ridiculous. He had the power to command an EMPLOYEE. Just because because you’re a woman, doesn’t mean you’re exempt from the the workplace hierarchy. Also, I enjoy how the main two sites she replied to was Polygon and Kotaku, two sites that will blindly follow these characters if it means standing up for “feminism”.

Jim, human beings are diverse. Some are good, some are bad, some have dealt with things in their lives that have driven them to do something that would be considered inappropriate. To say that "women" are emotional manipulators that are incapable of rational thought is a gross, unrealistic generalization. Saying something like that leads me to wonder what happened to you in your life to make you react that way, and it makes me feel like you aren't really that different from Jessica.

She is just way too passionate about her work. It's not unusual for professionals to be at odds with their criticizers, especially when criticizers are not in that profession themselves. She is very passionate about her own profession as a writer and takes criticism on her work very seriously. I am sure she equally hates other KZbinrs who doesn't have any experience in game developing but talks shit about games for a living, although the lack of empathy towards someone's death is totally uncalled for. Obviously, she handled this very poorly, and I am pretty sure she has temper issue, fairly narcissistic, and has fairly below average EQ. But still, I don't think everything that had happened was completely unjustified (as far as the GW2 fiasco goes). It's unfortunate nearly the entire comment section is on attacking feminism, and no one is interested in having any form of productive discussion in this community. While it's true that Jessica was the one who VERY stupidly brought in the gender card, I don't think that's even the core reason why she was upset. She was upset because she cared too much ,and thought she can just say what she wants to defend her own work in a public medium. Extremely dumb, but understandable for anyone who possess a set of skill that often gets criticized unprofessionally by laymen.
@skdeathxlife6 жыл бұрын
J - KZbin reviewers are there as the gamers they let us take a look at the game while giving us constructive (hopefully) criticism and just because someone like TB never made a game doesn’t mean he doesn’t understand them in the end I like games I can’t make one but I can tell you what’s fun about the game what’s bad and what could be improved etc and just because someone is passionate doesn’t excuse such behaviour

I am pretty sure "bad behavior" could be tolerated to a certain extent especially inside the company but an all out attack against a pretty reasonable and polite customer is unacceptable by any means.

Calling them extremist is wrong because this is the basis for feminism. There is nothing 'extremist' about the position they are taking inside of the group they are a part of.
@0LoneTech6 жыл бұрын
This is not the basis for feminism. Feminism is somewhat misnamed and frequently misinterpreted, but started as a reaction to rather severe injustice including inexcusable abuse. Some extremists took the fight and ran with it, and now you have groups claiming they are feminist when they are seeking conflict and projecting all sorts of straw men to get targets, typically with an unhealthy backing of misandry. We've seen the same in many other fields, such as people claiming they can't be racist because their race has been oppressed (as have they all). This form of abuser tends to have not encountered the original abuse, and instead rely on the protective reactions as a shield or weapon.
@Trakesh6 жыл бұрын
Prove it then, because all feminist leaders have gone on record as rabid man-haters whose only goal were to attack men. Your generalized and extremely vague statement says you know nothing of statements from feminists like "Men are machines, walking dildos" "Man hating is an honourable act" "When a woman reaches orgasm she is helping the patriarchy" "All sex even consensual sex is rape" "I want to see a man beaten to a bloody pulp" Were all extremely common for prominent feminist icons in the 1900s. You don't know anything about the history of feminism so don't even bother trying to get into the subject. When all the leading figures of feminism was spouting stuff like this you don't get to say "oh not all feminists". You are objectively ignorant. Don't try to make your romanticised and fictional idea of feminism into a reality. It doesn't work with someone who actually knows the history behind feminism.

Arenanet is one of the few companies that supports it's player base and their player base genuinely supports those that deserve it in return. Perhaps Jessica Price should have taken that a bit more in mind. As a side note. I've heard that just days before this the person that she lashed out at initially had just done a piece actually Praising Jessica for work that she was doing at Arenanet
@TheMistyBlueLounge6 жыл бұрын
@Quandry1 On his Twitch page I saw a clip from one of his videos a month or so before this all went down. I can't remember the specific wording, but he seemed like such a fan he even said she was a "god" of witting/narrative design, or something along those lines... the word "god" was used as a compliment, that much I remember... so yea, definitely not a hater lol. He loved Jessica's work, admired her, really genuinely wanted to have a discussion with her about some narrative decisions... and was called sexist, had his genuine interest twisted into an attack, and made to look like someone telling Jessica her work was wrong, and he could do better... I wish I had the link, someone gave it to me, I don't really use Twitch myself, but the video is still out there.
I'm getting the feeling she was a nightmare to work with so her boss jumped on this opportunity to get rid of her.

All of this could've simply been avoided had she handled this in a respectful and professional manner. No one said she was forced to agree with Deroir nor did the man (nor anyone for that matter) insinuate anything about her incompetence as a writer, only that they had simple feedback about the game they loved playing and they presented their opinions respectfully but unfortunately she couldn't handle one's simple disagreement on the subject and showed her true colors... But it is what it is at this point. No need to cry over spilled milk. Either way, keep up the good work Yong~

Eric Ohm Feminism doesn't teach anything. I'm a feminist and I didn't take classes to learn how to be an asshole to everyone from other genders. Look, imagine all those flat-earthers and conspiracy theorists, right? They always claim to be on top of other people and keep saying people need to ''wake up''. They have their own vicious little world where everything is against them and all famous people are killed or enslaved by Illuminati, right? Now take one of those conspiracy theorists and give them something else to think about, like feminism, and you get Jessica. She lives in a world where every man is against her and that nice and precious KZbinr who disagreed with her was just trying to attack her because she's a woman. She's just crazy and there are a lot of people like her, sadly. But really, feminism in its core is not what these people make it out to be.

I happened to notice how the entire context of the argument has been left out of these articles. The articles definitely intentionally tries to keep the readers in the dark about what was actually said by both parties, showing pure bias towards Jessica. Deroir has done nothing wrong. It's funny how they don't show what he actually said because they want to twist this issue for Jessica. They know if they do show Deroir's tweets that their entire self righteous article goes to shit because anyone could tell that Jessica was in the wrong. I don't know who exactly wrote this article but they clearly behave like we are too stupid and oblivious, as if we only gonna read this article and rely on it, like they are the only source of information.

I disagree on the idea it was, indeed, her personal account. Do you honestly like the idea of people getting fired over things said in tweets? Because that's what SJWs have been doing in droves, trying to destroy careers. She's a genuinely terrible person yes, especially after I saw what she said about TotalBiscuit's death, but I still argue firing over tweets is a slippery slope I don't want. If she does the job, does it well, and it doesn't mess with her work, she should be free to say and do stupid shit on her own private time. The only point I could genuinely see being made here is the angle that she was slandering a business partner of ArenaNet by openly trying to paint him as a sexist, and we all know that's some red-letter bullshit that can destroy a career, and now she's trying to attack the entire fucking company, which is NOT going to help her get another job in gaming.
@GothicGamer20126 жыл бұрын
I genuinely believe this woman is delusional. She believes the guy giving feedback is sexist despite gender not being raised once by him. She believes a public platform is a private space. She also believes that she can only be criticised or given feedback about something when she asks for it. Just wtf.
@marcuso.5306 жыл бұрын
RecklessFire29 I'm not saying that she should be fired for stuff she says on her personal time. People can say whatever they want, that's fine with me. But when you openly mock a member of your companies community who politely wanted to give feedback that you could ignore or turn down maturely at any moment, then proceed to ridicule and slander the entirety of said community as a whole, that reflects negatively on the company you represent. This applies WHENEVER you talk to fans about the game or product you represent.
@jbrown875 жыл бұрын
@@RecklessFire29 when you do or say something as a representative of your employer, it doesn't matter if it's on company time or your personal time/accounts. everything you say and do goes back on the reputation of the company. That's why you see employees who post pictures on facebook of themselves doing drugs or other illegal activities or making nasty comments getting fired. it goes back on their employer. Plus, most employers also have a social media clause in the hiring process that employees agree to that gives the company permission to randomly visit their pages and see what they post to make sure they aren't saying or doing things that would hurt the brand and cost profits.

I'd like to try to rationalize her bizarre belief that she is speaking truth to power, through what I learned in College. Two left leaning professors explained to me the theory of "Asymmetrical Power" in my junior year. Under that theory and the mindset it creates you can be as mean-spirited, antagonistic and downright evil; to people who have no desire to be the same to the offender, and still be in the right. The theory dictates that as long as you are lacking privilege in a social situation, that you are justified in doing anything to against the "privileged." This privilege does not take into account your personal position, such as being a game dev, merely the persons skin color and gender. So in her mind she is speaking truth to power because she views the GW community and the wider industry as a monolith of misogynistic men waiting to hurt woman at every opportunity. That fictionalized construct is what she uses to justify her bad behavior and to prove to herself that she is in the right no matter how mean she is to other people.
