@annikagail10 ай бұрын
i came with no prior knowledge of korean. the language barrier isn’t as difficult as it seems. navigation apps like kakao and naver maps are user friendly and have an english option for getting around. at restaurants, many have english menus. if not, you can always use the translation app papago or honestly, just point to pictures. at stores and everywhere else, everyone is typically nice to foreigners and will help through the language barrier. solo traveling is super scary at first, but it’s also super exciting. i have no doubt you’ll make friends in seoul, but it’s equally as easy to have fun on your own here :)

heya! great tour. I heard that the rules are quite strict here something about if a male and female student are in the same study zone past 11 pm you'll get fined or something like that and that if a male and a female are on the same floor there are penalties and such. Do these rules apply to like the gym and the kitchen and stuff. Just a bit confused coming from the UK thats a bit of a shock cause everything is quite chill there and there have never been problems at university where we have males and females sharing kitchens flats whatever without problems ever arising. Also, the last occupants stuff being there scares me a bit! Does the university do a deep cleaning of the room before a new occupant arrives. How clean are the kitchens and communal areas and stuff? Would really appreciate some insight on this! Thank You :)
@annikagail20 күн бұрын
hiiii the rules are kind of strict with the male and female students on each other's floors and in other rooms. you can get strikes that add up to different degrees of punishment. sometimes people will come around after 11 (or the set time, i honestly forgot the exact time) and check the common space, but they usually just ask the person to leave without giving a strike. and they didn't do any room checks or go into personal space that i know of. i also never heard of anyone really getting caught and into huge trouble during my semester, so i wouldn't worry too much. the gym and main kitchen (each floor has a microwave in the common space) are on completely different floors than the living spaces and are a mixed gender space at whatever time. they may ask you to be quiet after certain hours but don't mind otherwise. it is a bit different from other schools in terms of rules, but it wasn't something that affected my experience at all :) i'm not sure about the cleanliness of the dorms honestly. they had a team of professionals come clean our rooms toward the end of the semester, but it was while we were still living there so they couldn't go super in depth. they cleaned the bathroom and the floors but didn't go into the cabinets or dressers at all obviously. i'm not sure if they do an additional cleaning of the room after we leave. i did a wipe down of everything before i unpacked at the beginning, which i would definitely recommend to be safe. the kitchens and communal areas are pretty clean. only the singles get a personal mini fridge, so the big fridges and freezers in the kitchens were always super crowded. but the other utilities were pretty nice to use when needed. the trashes on each floor would be changed each day so there was never a smell or anything. i wouldn't worry too much!!

Hi Annika I love your vlog! I’m doing the Yonsei summer program in a couple months. Do you recommend SK global or woonjungwon for location closest to classes without a lot of walking?Thanks!
@annikagail9 ай бұрын
i only had i-house and sk as options so i don’t know much about woojungwon. however, i believe woojungwon is located on a hill, so it may be a bit of a tiring walk. sk walk is about 15 mins, depending on which path you take. i also think woojungwon only has doubles and triples, whereas sk has singles and doubles. but i believe woojungwon is newer (opened in 2014 vs 2010). the biggest difference to me would be that woojungwon has a curfew and sk does not :)

hi! i’m thinking of applying for a study abroad at yonsei, particularly so i can solidify my korean!! by the looks of it though, it does seem like a lot of things are separate for international students, so i wanted to ask do you study alongside home students? or are things separated for study abroad/global students?
@annikagail8 ай бұрын
hiii! when applying for classes you are give a long, long list of all the available classes. you do have to select classes that are “exchange available.” i was only looking at classes taught in english, so that limited my options slightly. but some of these english-taught classes are specifically for exchange students and will consist only of other international students. however, many of these english-taught classes will be available for both local students and exchange. in my schedule it’s about half and half, so not to worry! you’ll be with both local and exchange students :)

@sosa752110 ай бұрын
Hey I'll be going there next semester! Any tips with classes?
@annikagail9 ай бұрын
if you’re going as an exchange student, honestly i would recommend to go lighter rather than packing your classes. if you need to do max amount of credits, then of course do that! but if you have more flexibility, i would recommend to lean into a lighter course load. you’re going to want to explore and maybe even travel, so taking less classes will allow you to explore korea and also have the right amount of time to focus on the classes you have. i have no classes on fridays, which has been more of a benefit than i could have anticipated. it allows for long weekends for trips, and there are less crowds in touristy places on weekdays (before 3pm). for the actual classes themselves, if you’re taking all english classes, then it’ll be taught in relatively the same structure. it shouldn’t be too much adjustment, but always be adaptive! :)
@0630-day10 ай бұрын
when did you apply for this exchange? which month of the year are the applications open ?
@annikagail10 ай бұрын
for the spring semester, i was a little late to applying, so i applied in early october. the applications are open i believe september through october, but i’m not positive. i would definitely check online or with some sort of advisor!
